Today we’d like to introduce you to Randall Cole.

Randall, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Randall Cole, I am a visual artist specializing in photography, videography & digital media. I work with a plethora of independent organizations to showcase their brands and I am a part of WQED’s Film Academy (Pittsburgh’s Local PBS station) as a teaching artist. In addition to my creative work, I am also actively involved in music, acting & modeling.

I have always had an interest in art / entertainment from a very young age, but I did not decide to pursue it all as a career until about 2020. That’s when a lot of my interests really began to surface, and I had realized what I have always dreamt of doing was intuitively with me all along.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Farthest from it. This field, like many others are all about who you know and how active you can be. The only difference is that it’s much harder to make a living while you’re investing in yourself. A lot of people like me have to hit the struggle, work jobs you don’t necessarily want to just to survive while you’re grinding away at your passions etc. But as long as you’re taking care of things in small increments and not putting all of your focus on the trophy at the end, you’re going to see progress.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As someone who has always been fascinated by cameras and film, I must say that I love my work and I love to continue to learn more about it as I go along. Even on movie sets and modeling shoots I still like to be around the people on the other end of the camera and ensure they’re stoked about the content that they are getting. Recently, I’m really proud of the fact that Bump in the Night Society – Pittsburgh’s Paranormal Team had taken me on to be a member of their team as a camera operator / vlogger. They have taken me to some really cool locations and I am always excited about editing the footage that I capture with each investigation. I’m also really happy about working as a teaching artist with WQED. Working with students who are just as passionate about film as I was at their age is an incredibly rewarding experience. I like to think that I am unique because I’m very multifaceted in the realms that I am involved in. In the film world, I know cameras and I act, in the photo world I shoot pictures and I model, in the music world I perform and I know how to market etc. etc.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I always say that bad luck is better because you learn more from it than constantly being jaded with good luck. Seeing everything from the negative side makes you appreciate the small things that you have accomplished and can be proud of. Then one day you look back at the mountain you have climbed and can call that good luck.
