We were lucky to catch up with Ranbir Puar recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ranbir, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
My coaching practice was borne out of an unexpected friendship I developed with a gentleman I crossed paths with while on vacation in Maui. While I didn’t know who he was when we first chatted, I soon began to understand his impact on the self-help world! His name…Wayne Dyer.
During one of our in-depth conversations Wayne observed that he felt I had a skillset that I wasn’t using. And that I was making excuses. Well, it was that last sentence that ‘poked the bear’ so-to-speak.
When I returned home from that trip to Maui, I began to write and write and write. I somehow invoked the Muse and the words and ideas simply flowed.
Ironically, it was my insecurity and ego that led me to begin the writing process. I didn’t like someone telling me that I was making excuses and not doing the work I am meant to do. Thankfully, that part of my headspace faded into the background to allow for me to access my higher self. That part of me that has known since she was a little girl that I am here to be in service.
But to serve in a way that allows people to FEEl their inner strength and become independent.
So, my first job in the field was actually starting this business. I began leading workshops and before I knew it I was working with people that were struggling with major life challenges, including life-threatening illnesses. I feel blessed and honoured to have helped so many of those people self-heal and align with their BIG selves.
In working with people that were in the depths of despair, I found a pattern that linked these major life challenges back to their childhood experiences/traumas. This led me to create programs (and a TEDx Talk) for children and families so we can contribute to raising a generation of emotionally resilient children.
Ranbir, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been a Life Strategies Coach since 2009 and over the years my offerings have evolved. Initially I began focusing on crisis management coaching. Helping my clients through the hardest times of their lives, ranging from life-threatening illnesses to recovering from financial ruin. When I began to see my ‘systems’ result in what some people called ‘miraculous’ results I also observed patterns that allowed me to create more ‘proactive’ programs. The programs help my clients unearth old programs and patterns that keep them stuck. But allowing them to address them BEFORE a crisis so they could be proactive in their healing and growth. This also led me to create programs for kids (and to my popular TEDx Talk, “Building Strong Children”.
Now, I offer a range of services for my clients. These include on-demand courses and guided visualizations, group coaching programs, 1:1 coaching, educational and corporate programs as well as keynote speaking. I also created a popular Mind Habits App called “Today I Practice”. I have recently been interviewed by Forbes on the topic of Student Well-Being and they also highlight my app.
One of the main things I’d like readers to know is that I have also walked a difficult path in my life. I have applied the tools I share to my own lived experience and I know, for sure, if someone that grew up the way I did can apply these techniques and have this sort of inner peace and life fulfillment…then I know it’s possible for anyone. Don’t let your past hurts, disappointments and traumas dictate the days that unfold from here for you. Let them be battle scars, not open wounds.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back, I would certainly pick this path. In fact, even if I was to stumble into lottery winnings in the hundreds of millions, I would still do this work.
In my case, this line of work seemed ‘divinely’ guided because of how I got my start. But I have always felt fuelled when I have been in a role of service. Witnessing my clients turn their ‘lights’ back on and live boldly and fully is something I will never get tired of. It’s beyond words how celebrating the success of others in this way fills my heart and my mind!
I am a lifelong learner, so the field of personal development and the mind-body-spirit connection are perfect for someone like me.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
First and foremost, a reputation in this space is build on results. My business has been referral-based and the results my clients have achieved have been incredibly (and humbling). I also believe that reputation is built on consistency and excellence. But it also requires honesty! I am consistent with my coaching practice, which creates safety and trust with my clients. I am also a seasoned coach, and having coached so many people allows me to also spot patterns and programs quickly. This allows me to help my clients navigate rough waters with ease and grace. The honesty portion is important because it is vital to know who you can work with, and who just isn’t the right fit for you (and vice versa). It’s difficult to turn away clients, but when you know you cannot serve them in the way that they need in that moment in time, that is essential for longevity. I am also a coach that holds your hand when you need, but also puts your feet to the fire when you need as well. It’s real, and it’s raw.
