We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rana Sobh. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rana below.
Rana, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I feel like after working in retail, doctor’s offices, and in corporate for the last 10 years, I’ve learned that the same repetitive tasks and sitting in a chair with yellow lights in my face all day bored me. So I left. I took a risk leaving my secure, stable job to pursue my love of film and I’m STILL in shock after 2 years. I left what I thought was a my dream job back in May of 2020 as a publicist for musicians. Right during the height of covid I chose to be jobless (only for a little while) and that led me to discover what other options I had. This was a time when businesses and creatives had to take a page out of each other’s books – I did the same… kinda. I used whatever resources I had as an actress and publicist to find my way to making a full time job out of working in film and TV production. I trained and studied like my life depended on it (it kinda did) to make sure I succeeded . I’m in love with this side of the camera and have since broadened my skill set to the more exciting side of filmmaking.
Rana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Film and acting have always been in my mind since I was about 5 watching the only acting competition on TV. I’d imitate the actors, even the ones holding a gun and running for their life. I put it all aside after being in drama club and theatre in junior high because it didn’t seem like a realistic career. I couldn’t let it go for long as my passion for the arts kept building up like a volcano. After college graduation, I finally signed with agents in the area and now my life is consumed with audition after audition.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ve learned that if you want to build your social media, you have to have a profile that reflects what it is you want to be known for. I love sharing what I do and how it all comes together. That exactly what I post and then sneak some memes in between because having fun is a reflection of my character.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think making connections with someone, a stranger is incredibly rewarding. We tend to put our real emotions and life experiences into our creative work and we don’t realize how we relate to someone else. We speak to each other through visuals.
