We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ran Diao a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ran, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started sooner or later?
If I could go back in time, I wish I could have started my career in the film industry as early as possible. I studied film production in college, and I wanted to be a filmmaker since then. But at the same time, I felt that I should learn more before I started my career. So I went to graduate school right after college and studied a different major. However, as I really started to work in the film industry after graduating, I realized my lack of experience on film set, and that was the time I realized that I should spend the last 2 years at work instead of at school.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was interested in film making when I was in high school. I studied film production at college, and after graduating, I went to grad school majored in Integrated Digital Media. And after graduating, I went to Narval Films and working as a technical support till now.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I see myself as a content maker in long terms. At this point, the film “The Adaptation” impacted me a lot. The film told a dilemma of the filmmaker about how he balance between the commercial value and artistic value in his own productions.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Give them warmly welcome when they visit the office, and keep in touch with them as often as possible.
