We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ramsey Bergeron. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ramsey below.
Alright, Ramsey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
I spent 15 years as a personal trainer helping people achieve their physical well-being goals. I learned that most people knew they should be eating better and moving more. The problem was… why weren’t they? There was always a block. Helping people find the block and gain clarity around their real motivation laid the foundation for my presentations and executive clients. Often, we aren’t chasing the actual goal, we are chasing the feeling we think the goal will give us. That’s why I spend a lot of time focusing on people’s energy and intent.
Ramsey , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been a transformational leader and public speaker in the coaching and wellness industries for nearly two decades. In 2006, I quit my job as the National Director of Field Marketing for JBC Entertainment and started my own business, dedicating my life to promoting well-being and health. I am a Certified Professional Coach, holding numerous certifications from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) with specializations in Leadership and Well-Being Dynamics, as well as Performance Enhancement Specialization from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
In my coaching approaches as well as my motivational presentations, I blend empathy, humor, and practical knowledge. I live by Eastern Philosophies (I’ve attended a 10-day silent meditation Vipassana meditation course) in a modern world, achieving balance through daily meditation and exercise. I am an 8x Ironman, and love to travel and see all the beauty in the world.
I have several different offerings to help people find clarity and fulfillment in their lives. In addition to providing one-on-one executive leadership coaching, I teach a webinar on Radical Acceptance, to help people learn how to practice meditation, embrace impermanence, and non-judgment of others and themselves. I am also a Certified Master Practitioner of the Energy Leadership Index, a one-of-a-kind assessment that helps people see how they show up energetically day-to-day and what happens when they encounter stress. I also have several presentations about The Power of Your Perspective that I present to groups all over the country! I even host Leadership and Well-Being retreats all over the world!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
As a coach, my job isn’t to give people my opinion or advice. That was hard for me to wrap my head around since people paid me to tell them what to do when I was a personal trainer. It is still something I work on, and to be honest, mediation helps tremendously. It helps me learn to take a moment before I respond, and at that moment I can choose to listen instead of “prove my worth” by offering advice. I believe that my clients have the answers already within them! I just have to ask the right questions to help them gain clarity.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Oh yes! Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty, The Power of Now by Eckart Tolle, Lost Connections by Johann Hari, The Book by Alan Watts, The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching by Thich Nhat Hanh, & Think Again by Adam Grant. I recommend all of these books to my clients.
