We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ramon Faria a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ramon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes. I living from my creative work more than 15 years. I started work in small business, like t-shirt factories, carpete factories, etc… but always doing the art part from the process (like logos, layouts, shirt print, etc).
I always tried to work in my field.
In 2007, I was doing my bachelors in Fine Arts, I started a job on a huge TV channel in Brazil, the biggest in Latin America and second in the world in revenue.
There I learned a lot about video techniques, softwares, how TV works, quality control, etc.
Besides TV, I’m always creating. And I made some short films that have participate in some prestigious film festivals and won awards, like ATT&T film festival in Hollywood, Student Emmy nominated, and some other in Greece, German, Chine, Brazil, UK, and lot other countries.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a filmmaker that loves create. Most of my work is in animation and puppets.
In my career I’ve made some short films which were very well received at festivals around the world.
I’ve work in some music video to relevant artists, like Howie D. (from Backstreet Boys), the Brazilian’s Iza, Mc Carol, Pedra Leticia.
And also, I could work in nice project to HBO, MTV, Fuse, Globo TV, etc.
Now I have my own animation studio and I keep doing projects to clients anywhere in the world.
My main feature is creativity and speed.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
in 2017 I decided to quit Tv Globo to go to USA and earn my master’s degree in Film Production. It was a hard decision, because Globo is the biggest Tv channel and leave it with out know what would happens in USA sound like crazy for most people. But I leave TV, was accept in Full Sail University, in Florida, earn my Masters and today I know that it was the best decision.
I learned a lot while I was in University and work in Florida, I made a lot of networking, and today I can keep my own studio. If I had decided to stay at Globo, I’m sure I would be very frustrated today.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Work with creativity is the most rewarding work for me. None day is equal and I can try a new stuff every day.
Every day I have new challenges and I keep learning day by day.
