We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ramon Castro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ramon, thanks for joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
“Ramon Castro, a Venezuelan entrepreneur based in Houston, has successfully built a career as the CEO of ‘Let’s Connect Show’ while pursuing his creative passions. His story is inspiring, but it also raises important questions about the path to earning a full-time living from creative work. What key strategies and challenges did Ramon face in establishing ‘Let’s Connect Show’ as a creative venture, and how does his journey reflect broader trends in the creative industry? How can aspiring creatives learn from his experiences and work towards achieving financial sustainability while pursuing their creative dreams?”
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was born in Venezuela in 1977 and since I was a child I was always close to the world of art, I started as a musician in a Rock band, which opened the doors for me to communicate with music through a stage, there I toured my country and some cities of Mexico, in parallel in 1999 I took my first steps on national TV, this time as a soap opera actor. With the passage of time and the experience gained, I became one of the presenters on radio, TV, concerts, corporate events and the image of commercial brands. By 2009 I was already very well positioned within the media and the world of marketing since companies were looking for me to contribute my creative ideas and marketing strategies from my perspective, which is why I decided to work directly with brands and advertising agencies as a free agent. For 2011, I created The Pepsi Music Awards, an opportunity to highlight music in all its genres. This allowed me to combine all my knowledge in one place, since it involved music, media, marketing strategies and my creativity. . Upon arriving in the USA in 2019, I created an advertising and marketing platform called Let’s Connect Show, through which I help immigrants who arrive in different cities in the United States to understand the American system. Let’s Connect Show is an innovative business connection platform. We create strategic alliances, promote entrepreneurship, knowledge and quality education, promoting job creation and economic growth for the development of inclusive and sustainable communities. It was born in Houston in 2019 and so far we have 15 cities in the USA, also Panama, Puerto Rico, Madrid and Barcelona, Spain. Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It has not been easy to start from scratch several times, I have had to grow and evolve over time quite quickly, the first time was when I was fired from the TV channel where I started my television career, I was 20 years old and I had no idea Of what to do, I went to all the channels to introduce myself without any luck, until I arrived at a channel called Puma TV and requested a meeting with the manager of the channel, while there I told him that if he knew his new talent, he would let me know. I ask, Who? I told him, ME and he smiled there I was hired again, in 2002 I lost my job since there was a delicate political situation in my country, so I had to emigrate to Mexico, arriving in the Aztec lands I met a person called Juan Chavez, who was basically a soul mate in that city in Mexico, only he didn’t know it, I introduced myself to him and told him to give me a job, that I knew he didn’t know me but that I was practically his twin brother, Juan. With a smile he told me, of course we are going to start. In 2004, after having positioned myself as a creative in Juan’s company, I decided to return to Venezuela because I believed that things had improved. When I arrived, I did not find anyone to help me or give me support in the media. I spent almost 5 years without working. in what I liked, looking for opportunities until through an advertising agency I managed to get hired as the image of one of the most important telephone companies in the world Telefónica Movistar. During that journey they gave me the opportunity to be on national radio, they hired me on national TV again and my positive attitude, added to my constant resilience, led me to achieve a lot of success, but again I was left without a job on TV since the political situation generated the closing of my television plant. In my head I couldn’t lose, much less stop achieving success, despite this I managed to create awards for Pepsi Venezuela in 2011 that still exist today and are a reference throughout the world. By 2016 I arrived in NYC, there I spent two years looking for work in all kinds of fields, I was the best UBER, the best waiter, the best waiter, I developed everything I saw as an opportunity, but unfortunately they scammed me and I lost all my money. money, with the responsibility of feeding my family and in a new country. That is why I decided to move to Katy, a city in Texas very close to Houston, I began to create the opportunity for connection that would give me the return to success and the opportunity to grow in the United States, Let’s Connect Show since 2019 I became the person who helps immigrants understand the American system through connection and networking. In short, I have never stopped working and dreaming to achieve what I want.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My drive will always be my family, my daughter and helping people, I think it is definitely a vocation, I was born to connect and help the people around me.
