We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ramon Bruin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ramon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I wanted to pursue an artistic path professionally was right after I was discovered by a reporter of the New York Daily News. I have been drawing and painting my whole life, but I was never encouraged to do it professionally. And when the reporter saw my 3d drawings online, she wrote a huge article about it. She wrote about art for years but she never saw such creative 3d drawings. Without realizing it I invented a complete new style which really fit this online/social media generation.
After this interview in 2012 it really got wild. I’ve done hundreds, perhaps thousands of interviews. My first ever exhibition was in London at the gallery owned by Leyla Aliyeva, president’s daughter of Azerbaijan.
Since then it only got wilder.
Ramon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After I was discovered I instantly was a professional artist. And besides the 3d drawings I created much more. I create colorful neo-expressionistic paintings, popart doodle paintings, Next Level drawings (really complicated drawings) and big mural paintings. I am exhibiting and selling my artwork world wide and I have really cool collaborations with awesome brands and artist. I have created a new package design for the fragrance CR7 of Christiano Ronaldo, I have painted a live 3d painting at the launch of the clothing line of Chris Brown, I made really cool 3d illusions of David Copperfield and much much more.
As long as I can keep creating stuff I am happy
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I love NFT’s. Of course I do not like the impact on the environment, but that issue is being handle with eco-friendly solutions as we speak. But I love the fact NFT’s provides us with a complete new was of creating art. For years we are used to owning physical items, so for a lot of people it is hard getting used to the idea you can actually own a JPEG image. So yeah, I am a fan of NFT’s. It is not replacing the art wold, it is only adding new possibilities.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I am always pushing myself to try out new stuff or new materials. Years ago I never made murals and now I am creating murals over 100 square meters. I am not afraid to say yes to things I have never done. For me that is such a great chance to learn. I also embraced making mistakes. Making mistakes is inevitable, so you better embrace them and learn from them as much as you can.
