We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ramiro Perez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ramiro thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
After I stopped playing in Bolivia Pro Major League and National Team (Bolivia) I had always the dream to continue involve in soccer, I had a knee injury that’s when I stopped playing and it’s when I came with the feeling and idea to start coaching soccer, but this time from the foundation, for the youth level ! After I learned how woks and how to run a development program being the director program for a local youth soccer in Chula Vista I decided to open my own youth soccer club, offering first year the developmental program only. Just coaching and working developing the talent and skills of the kids!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a youth soccer club established in Chula Vista city. We are proud to represent coaches from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities and we currently have coaches from Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, and the United States. This collection of different coaches and their collective abilities and experience is what makes GEFC stand out from other club teams in the league. The program strongly supports diversity among its players and strives to bond an array of teammates through this beautiful game.
We believe youth soccer players will be difference makers when it comes to improving the game.
We believe a more collaborative environment between coach, parent, club, and player is in the best interest of player development.
We believe a strong and supportive community of level-headed and like-minded parents and coaches will inspire players
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
on the 3rd years of the program, we had more competitors coming with big name & brand (FC Barcelona Scola) in our area (Eastlake and Otay Ranch) youth clubs like Albion South, Barca Scola, and Xolos USA, we were losing kids and teams BUT me and coaching staff never gave up! we continue demonstrating our coaching methodologies and passion and dedication. It was a moment that we were about to stopped the program, it was hard moment hard seasons in 2016.
We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.
after experience the resilience having faith, we took the name of the club to the a better place and image as a youth soccer club winning official league season and many local Weekend tournaments. Clubs like Rebels SC, Albion South, Barca Scola, Legends, and SD Elite offered me to merge with them or join their soccer club.
