We recently connected with Ramin Guseinov and have shared our conversation below.
Ramin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I was able to earn money in music production right away when I launched my online beat store. But of course at first the money was very small and I barely could make a living with it, but I was lucky enough to have the best partner in the world. My wife was very supportive and believed in me from day one and together we were able to pull it off. After around 8 months or maybe a year I was able to make enough money to sustain a living. Of course with the knowledge that I have now that process could have been way quicker. At first I was overthinking a lot of things and caring way to much about what people around me thought of what I do. I didn’t care enough for those thoughts to stop me, but, looking back, it was still too much and they were definitely slowing me down. But it was a natural part of growth and I don’t look at it with regret now.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a 35 year old music producer, originally from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. My love for hip-hop music drove me to dedicating all of my time to making it myself. I produce hip-hop music with old school or nostalgic feel of 90’s/2000’s (kind of music that I grew up on). I offer production, mixing and mastering services, and cover art graphic design. Full package to help an artist fulfill their vision of their song or an album. I’m proud of quality and customer service that I’m able to provide to anyone that I work with. My main goal is to create meaningful music that will stand the test of time. Music has got to make you feel something. If I create a track but feel nothing when I hear it I just don’t put it out at all.
I also put out instrumentals and albums under the name of ‘raminbeatz’ for people to listen to and enjoy.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Oh there’s so many benefits to being a full time creator. For me it brings the most fulfillment out of everything that I tried before. Because everyday I feel like I do something important. At least for me. And then seeing other people benefit from it is a feeling I can’t even describe. I got messages from people saying that my music helped them with their depression or inspired them. And that is so humbling and rewarding that I can’t compare it to anything else. And just in general seeing people give positive feedback to what you do out of heart is an amazing feeling. This kind of life is full uncertainties though and it’s not for everybody, but if you’re not scared of unknown I’d highly recommend to try making your true passion your full time gig. Whatever it is.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to not necessarily pivot but to narrow down a lot more. At first when I started making music I was trying to make all kinds of beats. Boom bap, trap, boom trap, arabic beats you name it. I was all over the place. And since I was new to making music most of them were not that good. And from a marketing and social media point of view it’s also not a good way to go about things. I had to narrow down and figure out firstly what kind of music I enjoy the most and secondly what’s the most fun to make. That really helped my growth as an artist. I focused on my strengths and that also helped my branding. Having a niche also helps your social media management a lot. The mistake of making all kinds of beats was the one that hurt my growth in the beginning the most I believe. But that was also the part of my learning curve, finding out who I was as an artist.
