We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rami Kalla. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rami below.
Rami, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
AXON Taser approached our studio looking to implement Virtual Reality Training as an option to train police officers and first responders around the globe on the proper use of their taser device.
Our team has helped create just under a dozen training modules that feature real prisons, life-and-death situations, and the opportunity to learn in a safe, controlled environment.
Virtual reality training boasts high retention rates, the ability to immediately track scoring and offer feedback, and instills a greater confidence in the trainee.
Our team has even developed a new way to film to create an embodiment feeling when wearing the VR headset. Instead of feeling like a fly on the wall, you would personally embody the officer who you are playing in the VR training. When you choose to grab your taser, the hands move to draw the taser in front of you. It is really unique to this scenario for training, but we believe this could also be used in the future for other virtual reality applications.
Last year, AXON’s VR course was certified by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST). This is the first VR course of it’s kind to receive such recognition.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Rami, an ASU alumni and Arizona native, began his career at General Mills, working with their marketing team. After a few years, he decided to follow his dream of creating a video production company. In 2002, Point in Time Studios was born. Today, he oversees the creation of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality productions across the globe and leads a phenomenal and talented team of storytellers.
Some of Point in Time Studios clients include Gila River Resorts and Casinos, AXON, Ford, Coca-Cola, and many more. Last year, Point in Time produced a VR Onboarding Program for new hires at Gila River. With the same client, the team produced an Augmented Reality experience in Sky Harbor Airport to promote the Gila River and it was a huge success. Most notably, Point in Time has produced the first ever accredited VR Training program for first responders and police officers with AXON.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Most of our sales are B2B, so it is important to me to keep up with my LinkedIn profile. Whenever I meet someone new, I send them a connection request. Over the last 20 years, I have built an audience of around 5,500 connections. I am always sure to share both professional updates, as well as personal updates. People buy from people, so I try to show people who I am as a person so they are more likely to buy from me.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I really enjoy reading books. I like to read about 5 – 10 per month. The two most notable to me are by Simon Sinek, Start With Why, and The Infinite Game. I also really like the books: Crucial Conversations, The Foundational Behemoth, Rich Dad Poor Dad, and Who Not How.
