We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ralph Patton III a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ralph , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The term Turntskii means “Present.” It started off as a slang word that I used around my friends when we were having a great time, being present and enjoying the moment.
The idea formed around my business Turntskii was my lifestyle. It was formed around everything I represent, and that is a lifestyle focused on love, creativity and experiences. Everyday I see myself flowing in and out of life experiences effortlessly, comfortably, and happily. I look for more things that I like and brings me joy. To me, that’s being my true authentic self. I seek to inspire others to do the same. Turntskii is not just a brand. It’s a lifestyle brand, a constant development of self, of others, of life.

Ralph , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Ralph Patton III. I’m originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. I transitioned to Atlanta, Georgia after I graduated from college in 2018. I went to school for film & media, so creativity and art was something I always had a passion for. Postgraduate was a struggle for me when it came to pursuing a career in the creative field. I tried working for photography companies, film production companies, while doing some free lance work. I learned quickly that I didn’t like pursuing creative projects that I didn’t have a strong interest for. I also didn’t like working with people who weren’t aligned to me. I love working with people who share a common understanding of goals, objectives, and strategies, and who work together to achieve them.
When I launched Turntskii Creative Department May of 2023, I finally had that freedom. I had the freedom to create whatever I wanted to create, and work with who ever I wanted to work with. It was a huge self expression for me. Launching my clothing brand sparked growth in all aspects of my life.
My work is my mind being shared to the world. It’s a sense of vulnerability, but it’s not bad vulnerability. Im creating and expressing my life in this present moment. The art is flowing with me. I’m creating everything I truly love and represent, I’m a living proof of my brand. There’s never any disappointment because I love what I make and I love who I am. I will continue to create the art based on how I’m feeling in that certain stage of my life. It makes the outcome even more beautiful when people purchase the art. To see the ones who’s walking in a similar path, love the message, and love the art is very inspiring.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Rick Rubin’s book – The Creative Act: A Way of Being
The Creative Act is a book that illuminates the path of the artist as a road we all can follow.
This book has made a strong impact for my art inspiration. If I ever found myself at a creative block, I would turn to this book for innovation. I strongly recommend any entrepreneur to read this book. It helps with innovation in all aspects. It helps spark creativity from places you never could imagine.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ve built my audience by connecting my personal brand to my business brand. So, I’ve created a personal brand while also scaling my business brand. Consumers like to feel connection, and know the quality of the person they’re buying from.
I’ve also realized that you as a person should never disconnect from the art. You, your life, and the art is intertwined. That brings out the best art.
