We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ralph Exilus a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ralph, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I started my brand 6 years ago, well I had an idea 6 years ago. Trauma, death, covid and financial struggles are just some of the reasons why I took to long to take a risk and go all in. Until last may I fully invested all time energy and money into my brand and business. And in a lot a year I’ve grew to scaling a couple thousands every month in revenue and sell out every drop. I’ve only scratched the surface of my potential as a designer and a storyteller.
Ralph, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Ralph Exilus I’m a 25 year old Haitian American designer from Philadelphia. My love for fashion has always been with me honestly. Heavily influenced by church, streetwear and the typical athlesuire Philly style (north face, Nike techs and new balance). Growing up I didn’t really have a lot of nice clothes, so it started out simply as a way to try to stay fresh with only a limited amount of options. What started as a challenge turned into a hobby as I would start altering my own clothing. Mix my early love for fashion and my passion for computer design I found myself creating logos and finally making my own brand, “HOMMAGE DIOR”
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I would’ve understood the power of networking. I was always afraid of sharing my work and going into different spaces other than my own. It took me some time but once I started to branch out into other environments in my space I became to slowly find my own place in life.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My Family. I owe a lot to the ones that sacrificed for me to be in the position in am today. I have my own goals and ambitions but ultimately my family is my driving force.
