We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful RaKeisha Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with RaKeisha below.
RaKeisha, appreciate you joining us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
I am a big believer that once you launch a business you will lose money before you make any money back. Unless your already rich and have a big platform behind you than it’s easier said than done. Having a purpose and plan on top of a value product is probably the best thing a business owner can do. I honestly believe I scaled up because two different reasons. One of those reasons is social media. On social media I have a lot of people watching me taking my ideas but No actual support.
As a business owner still to this day it is so hard to see people take my ideas, comments or quotes. Knowing you worked hard for something but you have so many people just watching you to take from you not really support you. Crazy to say that is what made me start advertising my business in person and not social media. I wanted to try to connect to my clients On a different level. I felt as in it could make a difference and it did.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
In January of 2018, I had the courage to launch a business with the intentions of servicing all mankind in enhancing their beauty with luxurious hair extensions. As a business owner I believes and instills in my customers that being glamorous is not just about looking good with hair extensions, but embracing your natural hair as well. In 2019, I than realized my actual vision was bigger than myself and felt as if my purpose was more than just hair extensions. With that being said I took it further so I can help women by launching my own natural organic hair care line with intentions of empowering women by embracing their natural hair.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The best and smartest way to keep your clientele going is being consistent. No matter what you do be consistent, always be open to know people choose you because they want to, not because they have to. Treat them as if they are appreciated.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The way I built the little audience I have on social media is by posting different business content. I don’t stay as consistent as I should for many reasons. I keep the people waiting on what’s next. Remember I always said the real work is in person.
