Rainy , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

“Life begins at the edge of your comfort zone.” This quote has resonated with me since I was 20, a pivotal age when I earned a full scholarship to study in the US. Back then, I pitched my aspirations of bridging creativity between the US and Asia, which led me to pursue a degree at prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Despite the initial fear and being far from home, my experience in Savannah exposed me to new perspectives and ways of living. My biggest opportunity came where I was part of the creative team on Superbowl Show Opening XLVIII with Fox Sports, a project with 111.5 million views, 4 million dollars in airtime. This 30 secs spot opened up my eyes to fully immerse in thsi wonderful US culture, and also my first exposure into the Broadcast and Creative industry.

Taking further leaps, I ventured from Savannah to NYC with only $500 and a dream, couch-surfing for three months without a plan or job. Eventually establishing myself as an Art Director. I take every situation as a learning opportunity and eventually found myself designing and animating a Pepsi billboard in Times Square. It was a surreal moment – what I thought could only be possible on TV has now turned into reality.

These experiences fueled my confidence, culminating in the founding of Design Never Sleeps, a Brand & Design Consultancy based in NYC and Singapore, in 2023. Working at Spotify as a Sr. Art Director has helped me to understand the blueprint of crafting the brand of a startup/tech company into what we now know as the culture-driven brands. One of my proudest moment is building a brand like K-Pop ON!, a global cultural zeitgeist with 5 mil followers. My team and I have assisted businesses in constructing their brands and positioning them at the forefront of culture. Now, rather than giant billboards in Times Square reserved for Fortune 500 brands, I can help smaller companies realize that aspiration through Design Never Sleeps, guiding them in brand positioning and crafting their company’s brand roadmap. My ultimate goal is to help companies achieve the impossible – where billboards in Times Square are now within reach.

This journey has honed my leadership skills and solidified my mission to bridge the East and West, helping companies ideate and position themselves with my 15 years of expertise. It has come a long way, but I truly believe life begins by making small uncomfortable decisions. This leap has also made me more intentional with my purpose in life, my vision, and my mission to be a good leader for my team and to be impeccable with my words. Showing up intentionally for myself and others is actually the greatest gift from this experience. It has come a long way, and I truly believe as long as you take small leaps, big things will happen for you.
