We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rain Zheng. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rain below.
Rain, appreciate you joining us today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
I actually never do even though I do work in a corporate setting where everyone encourages to. I really do love what I do, I am trilled by the fresh new challenges I had to overcome projects to projects, on top of the fresh new talents I get to meet and bond with. The old friends who are the talented genuis that I had the prvillages to work with again and again makes me I am a bit of a workaholic but I don’t intent to stop.
Rain, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Rain. I’m currently working as a production manager /Line producer based in Los Ageles, working for Paramount Global Multiplatform production group, promoting their original content. I used to be a film student from San Francisco who’s hanging onto her Hollywood Dream.
I got into producing/production management through meeting my mentor, Veronica Radadelli who’s a working producer in the industry. On top of the industry skills, one of the most important things she taught me was that everyone has their starting point which deserves to be treated with nurture.
Overall about the type of projects I tend to d0 — I tend to do the more complicated ones of what the companies have. There was a phrase where I just tend to get call in by companies that has projects that’s needing rescue, which is still true. I have this particular skillset where I am particularly good at identifying problems and consequently solving them. I also can go to markets that I’ve never been to and quickly pickup the resources there is. Also I do wish to give a shout out to all the crew member who has been working with me. Obviously I can never do what I do without any of the,
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think end of the day, if I have a set of crew members who can for any reason walk home thinking the time they spent on my set is worthwhile, I have done my job. On top of that, I have been given the opportunities to implement a sustainable production on the projects I’ve done. The little environmental contribution that can make is quite satisfying.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think this goes back to what my mentor had taught me — it’s all about the work. It’s no news that the film industry are filled with long hours and challenging conditions. I do admit as a person I just love the challenge of it all. But in order to make things happen, you have to take the leadership and put in the work first. I do not ever ask my team to do anything I wouldn’t (There was a non Paramount shoot I did where I had to pump the gray water out of a bathroom trailer) In addition to this, I made the point to shut up and listen, I also made a point to never ask for discount unless I have to, I always find the one mutual goal between crew members, vendors, brands, and take all of them to head to that same direction together. I think that’s what makes me stand out as a line producer/PM
