We were lucky to catch up with Rafid Naeem recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Rafid thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
For the longest time, I wanted to create a Brand. A brand in the Wedding Photo and Film industry. I am a wedding photographer and a videographer and for the longest time I was operating just through word of mouth and referral marketing. I did not want to market my wedding portfolio on my personal page as I wanted to keep it related to travel and talking about the latest camera gear. But you can only market yourself through word of mouth that much. I knew I had to separate myself as an entity and work on a Brand. I had the portfolio, I had the skills, experience, gear, everything necessary to launch this brand. But what I didn’t have was a name. I was just stuck on deciding a name for this Brand that I couldn’t progress. To me, the name is super important. It needs to be meaningful, it needs to be easy. All the foundation for marketing your new company relies on its name. The clock was ticking. Each second I didn’t work on this, I was losing potential clients. I talked to people after people, bouncing around ideas, hoping something would inspire me. I looked around for inspiration, but still nothing. Then I looked up to the Moon and suddenly it hit me. I wanted to name my company after the Moon. So, I named it Qamara media, based on the Arabic word for moon. It is commonly used in Arabic-speaking countries, often symbolizing beauty, light, and guidance. It can also be used metaphorically to describe someone’s beauty or to express admiration. Just as the moon has mesmerized humanity for centuries with its luminous presence, my company aims to illuminate our client’s special moments with the same grace and elegance. Now that the name has been established, everything else is following in its place!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Rafid Naeem, I am a photographer and a videographer. I love travelling, creating content and professionally I am in the wedding industry capturing people’s most special days. I have been in the wedding industry for a couple of years and the joy of sharing those special photos or those cinematic videos from the couples wedding days and seeing those reactions from the couples is why I keep doing what I do. The problem that couples face is that it’s usually their first time planning a wedding and they’ll spend all this money and time in hiring that picture-perfect wedding photography team. Everything will go amazing but then they don’t hear back for months and months and sometimes over a year for their photos and videos. My team is dedicated to delivering all the content in a timely manner and communicating with our clients effectively.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It’s seeing the reactions of the couples seeing their photos and videos and be in awe on how amazing they turned out!
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Being a creative is a journey, it is ever evolving and if you are not evolving as a creative you are doing it wrong. You need to be constantly learning, constantly being inspired, constantly inspiring. It should never be just a straight path.
