Rae’Shun okafor , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
That’s a really powerful question. my legacy would center around breaking barriers, challenging beauty standards, and celebrating the richness of diversity in the fashion industry. I’d want to be remembered for helping to redefine what is considered beautiful and for inspiring others—especially those who feel underrepresented—to embrace their unique features with pride. It’s about showing that beauty isn’t limited to one look and that representation matters on all levels.
Rae’Shun okafor , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Rae’Shun and I’m a fashion model with a mission to challenge beauty norms and provide a more inclusive representation of the diverse spectrum of beauty in the fashion and modeling industry. I got into modeling through a mix of passion and necessity—seeing so many faces like mine underrepresented in the media pushed me to want to become the change I wanted to see. My journey has been both empowering and eye-opening, and every step has reinforced my belief in the power of representation.
I focus on creating inclusive and boundary-pushing work. My creative process is deeply rooted in storytelling—each project or collaboration is a chance to convey something real, beautiful, and authentic. Whether it’s for fashion shoots, runway shows, or editorial pieces, my work always strives to elevate and empower people who often feel overlooked. I believe that everyone should see themselves represented in the media they consume, and I’m proud to be part of that shift.
What sets me apart is my commitment to not just being a model, but a voice for those who are too often excluded from the mainstream narrative. I am proud of the visibility I’ve helped create for dark-skinned individuals in spaces where we were once underrepresented. My work goes beyond just showing up in front of the camera—it’s about contributing to a broader conversation of inclusivity, authenticity, and visibility.
For potential clients, fans, or followers, I want them to know that my work is driven by a purpose. I aim to inspire others to embrace their uniqueness and challenge the standards we’ve been taught to accept. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about making people feel good and creating work that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with other creatives, and the way my platform has helped others feel seen and valued. I’m here to contribute to something bigger than just my career—it’s about legacy, change, and making a lasting impact
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Managing a team and maintaining high morale can be challenging but also incredibly rewarding. The key to maintaining high morale is making sure your team feels valued, supported, and empowered. It’s about creating a positive and inclusive culture where everyone feels like they’re working towards a shared goal.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When I first entered the modeling industry, I used to compare myself to a lot of models I saw online. Over time, that took a toll on my mental health. I began to feel like I wasn’t doing enough and that I was losing myself, losing focus on why I got into this industry in the first place. The way I unlearned this mindset was by scrolling less on social media and only posting when it was related to work. I learned to accept myself, flaws and all, and realized that what’s meant for me will come in its own time.
