We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Raelle Reid. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Raelle below.
Raelle, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
About 6 years ago, our parents entertained the idea of owning a Photo Booth as something to do in their free time. At the time we dismissed the idea because they didn’t have much free time in their schedules. A few years later, my husband and I entertained the idea again after having a few poor experiences. After a few months of research and discussion, we evolved the idea into a business. I love photography and planning events for loved ones; my husband loves technology and helping others. Though this opportunity is the first time we’ve worked together (in a business sense), we were certain this business was the perfect fit! Family is important to us and we want it to show in our business. This business is a legacy we honor our late mother with as it was her idea—we know she would be proud! Our goal is to pass it down to our daughter. And future generations to come!
Raelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My interest in photography began at a young age. I remember receiving a digital camera for Christmas and sneaking it into school to take pictures with my friends. I’ve always been the designated photographer at family and friends events! Likewise, my husband has always been interested in technology. As an engineer, he’s always wonder how things work and how he can duplicate the idea and make it better. Owning a photo booth business was a perfect way to merge both of our interests.
Naptown Photo Booths is a family-owned photo booth rental company dedicated to providing high-quality and personable service.
Our photo booths capture high-quality pictures and have fun features, such as videos, gifs, and digital props. We can text, email, and print the pictures on-site. We really pride ourselves on being personable and detail-oriented. We go out of our way to ensure that each detail of our services matches the event and the client’s vision. We try to do our best to cater to the needs of the client to ensure our photo booth services is the highlight of the event.
Most of all, we really enjoy providing these services! And that joy spreads to the guests of the event. Even the least tech-savvy or photogenic guest has a great time! We believe in building memories to cherish!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Starting a business is not something my husband nor I envisioned for ourselves. Starting a business was a little too risky and time-consuming for our lifestyle. However, once we became parents, we realized risk-taking was a part of the journey to success. Our goal is to provide our daughter with examples and opportunities better than we had.
So, after research and practice, we created Naptown Photo Booths the summer of 2019. We had steady business for about six months before the pandemic. It was devastating to our growth. Though we are incredibly grateful to have remained healthy and safe during the pandemic which is a blessing, we essentially had to start from square one. Luckily for us, we truly love what we do! That keeps us motivated to keep going.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source for new clients is by word of mouth from those who have experienced our services. We struggled at first with marketing and opportunities. We spent a lot of money on marketing with companies that really didn’t help us gain clients. The engagement was nonexistent yet the investment was high. We quickly parted ways with these companies and tried to gain business through our own efforts—family and friends! A majority of our inquiries have been through referral and we are eternally grateful!
