We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Raechell Tamaryn a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Raechell thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
My passion for music started the moment I was born; I came out of the womb loving music and dance. I began playing the piano when I was young, soon after started singing, and writing songs. From grade 4 to 11, I was bullied and had few friends, so I spent a lot of time alone in my livingroom with my piano. During those years, I found solace and inspiration in other artists, who helped me feel less alone. Their influence further inspired me to pursue music, with the hope that I could affect others in the same positive way.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi name is Raechell Tamaryn, and I’m a singer, songwriter, and performer.
I came out of the womb loving music and dance, and from a young age, I was drawn to the piano and singing, driven by a deep desire to inspire and create.
During my school years, I faced a lot of hardships. It was during these difficult times that I found solace in music and the work of other artists, who inspired me and made me feel less isolated. This experience ignited a passion within me to affect others through my own artistry.
At 16, I created my first EP, which was a significant milestone in my journey. I attended Steinach Regional Secondary School (SRSS), where I earned a music major, distinction in music, merit, and laureate. Later, I furthered my music studies at Seneca at York, delving deeper into various facets of music.
I have always loved performing and took the initiative to book myself shows by reaching out to venues, attending networking events, and learning the ropes of the industry. My passion for creating music extends to being part of music videos, and finding a supportive team has propelled my music career further.
Every day presents a new learning experience and an opportunity to advance my success in music. I truly have a passion for being a voice for the voiceless, and helping others through music in any way I can. I offer a range of services, from performances to music teaching, aimed at inspiring and connecting with others. I am committed to creating a positive impact on others, drawing from my personal experiences to provide comfort and inspiration through music.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is helping others heal through music. It’s incredibly fulfilling to help people feel heard, safe, and encouraged. Not only is creating music therapeutic for me, but I also hope it offers the same benefits to others. Connecting with others and being told that my music unlocks their feelings, helps them feel empowered and seen, or provides any positive impact on their personal journey means the world to me.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn to trust my intuition and not change myself for others unless it was in a positive realm of growth. In the past, I’ve worked with people who tried to convince me that sad music, or anything other than a DJ beat filled with happiness and positivity, wouldn’t be heard, make it on the radio, or be enjoyed by many.
They were wrong. Artists like Halsey, Billie Eilish, Alanis Morissette, Jessi J, and Sia are genuine to their feelings and craft. They create a wide range of storytelling with various emotions and musical vibes, proving that authenticity and emotional diversity in music resonate deeply with audiences. This realization helped me stay true to my artistic vision and trust my creative instincts.
