We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Raeanne Silver. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Raeanne below.
Raeanne, appreciate you joining us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
When I was 18 and going to school for dental hygiene, my dad said I needed to get a job within one week otherwise he wasn’t going to pay for college any longer. I reached out to my friend who managed a tanning salon, and I interviewed with the owners and got the job. I absolutely loved it. I was meeting with clients, selling tanning packages. To my surprise, it was a high-pressure sales environment, which I thrived in. That is where I found my love for business and sales.
My dad also happened to understand and have owned businesses where sales people are so important. So we shared a bond about sales, business, and just talking about the nuances that make a business a great experience for customers.
He was also at a place in his life where he was online looking at franchises to buy into. I was really pushing the tanning salon and explaining the day-to-day. He kept telling me the tanning world was not his thing. He comes from a background of installing Radios into cars and electronics. Tanning wasn’t something he was interested in. I eventually got him eight months later to meet with the owner of the tanning salon. This was Desert Sun.
after the meeting, he related to the business a lot, he also saw that I loved it, and it was an opportunity for us to work together..
He ended up investing in buying a location, and the rest is history. We did that for 10 years together. We were top 10% of tanning salons in the country in terms of Of Revenue. We were always number one out of 80 locations. We absolutely loved it and we had a blast.
after 10 or 11 years. The industry was changing, we sold that business, and got into the Massage business. Again, the front desk was similar with selling memberships and connecting with clients. We love that, also ended up being the top location within that franchise. We did that for 11 years.
I ended up taking that business over over a few years, and then sold it after I had a baby and some health issues.
I told myself the next business I get into it really be a passion filled business and really need to fit every aspect of my lifestyle.
I took a few years off and started my HOTWORX journey. I absolutely love Fitness, the demographics this business attracts, the way the business is ran, and the culture of HOTWORX. I get my sales fix, and get to work with awesome clients and a great team!

Conversations about M&A are often focused on multibillion dollar transactions – but M&A can be an important part of a small or medium business owner’s journey. We’d love to hear about your experience with selling businesses.
Selling a business is a very hard decision. Especially when it’s doing well and successful. It’s not easy to sell YOUR income.
Also, a lot of times your identity is wrapped up in the business, so it’s stressful, sad, and confusing to possibly lose that. Or think you’re losing your identity.
My advice would be to listen to your gut. And really understand the reasons you’re considering selling. Also, it’s so important to come from a place of curiosity and excitement of the future rather than the fear.
It’s scary to not know what your future holds, and what you’ll be doing next, but when you come from a place of curiosity, excitement of what the future might hold, it’s an adventure to think about something new and different.
I was so scared to sell my last business, and it ended up being the best thing!

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Team Culture is one of the most important things. I really try to keep things fun and exciting for the team. Having fun, bonus, opportunities, being organized so everybody really understands expectations, getting everybody’s input so they feel involved and empowered. All these thing help build a solid and positive team atmosphere.
It’s also one of the hardest things to create. One person can totally elevate the team, and one person can bring the whole team down. It’s something you always need to be intune with.
