We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rae Serbeck a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Rae thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I’ve been in the entertainment industry for the past 7 years as a model, film and voice actor, and writer. To this day my most meaningful experience was back in 2020-2021. In early 2020 I was approached by the CEO of Elixir by Royel Magazine, an international humanitarian magazine with writers from all over the world writing pieces to better the younger generations. At that point in my acting career I was in several films and cartoons and was just hitting my stride, when I was asked if I’d like to submit a single piece on my thoughts on drug abuse, which at that point I had been fully sober from hard drugs or almost 4 years, so it was a subject I had a lot of thoughts on. I looked at examples from past issues and I noticed a lot of writers almost seemed to want to tell people what to do, I took a different approach and just talked about my own experience, being raw and honest.
After my piece was published with Elixir by Royel, I was flooded by active readers thanking me for what I had written and had to say. I was talked to again by the CEO of Elixir by Royel asking me to come back for another piece and then 4 more on top of those. Every piece more and more highly reviewed by the readers. Talking to there audience of 2 million. The amount of people who reached out to me about what I had to say about Drug Abuse, the meaning of Rebellion, Sexual Abuse, Love, and other subjects, was astonishing. One person I will never forget was a teenage girl who told me because of what I had to say she came forward to the police and finally got help for the sexual abuse she was going through within her family. When I was told this young woman’s story i was brought to tears. To know I had that kind of effect in the world, to let another human being know they weren’t alone, was the greatest thing I’ve ever felt in my life.

Rae, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I had my start in modeling back in DECEMBER of 2017 when I was talked into trying out for a Utah Fashion Show started and run by L.A. Talent. Somehow my best friend and I were picked to be two of the male models to walk the runway the month after tryouts. That was my big start and my first ever modeling gig.
For the first 8 months after that I continued to working for different runway running organizations, but then I decided to take a different turn into modeling for a small agency called United Fashion Talent, expressing myself in more of an art perspective. I quickly realized that made absolutely no money, by quickly I should say a year, haha. A year and a half into my modeling career, I decided to fully turn into Freelance modeling. That is where I found what I’m good at and can succeed more than I thought I could.
I started getting actual fully paid jobs at the start of year two of my modeling career. Things finally started actually looking up. I started getting jobs for a few pieces of clothing here and there, building up my contacts, the companies I would work with would spread the good word about my work ethic and would recommend me. Next thing I know I’m working with quite a few companies, casual clothing, fitness wear, shoe brands, sunglass companies, and even men’s jewelry Stores. That continued until I got my first publication in a magazine.
In December of 2019 I was asked by the owner of Inspired Magazine (a Utah local magazine) if they could publish me in there January issue, I of course said yes. Everything continued going up from there. Buckle published two different high fashion pieces of work on there online Website late January, got my first ever modeling/acting job for a music video with my now good friend Robbie Tripp for his music video Luka Doncic, the next 2 months I was published twice in the national magazine Rising Model Magazine, after I got my first ever Cover model issue with the local utah magazine Inspired. Then the big one for me hit, the one that made me realize that I may be better at this than I thought. I was approached by Mitch Royel owner of the magazine Elixir by Royel, asking if they could publish me in there international magazine as not only a model but also a writer for a human interested piece on bullying. Wrote a 10 page article for them and it was very well received. After that there was no going back.
As of today 2023, I have been published in over 90 international magazines, 28 magazine covers, walked for several designers in New York, Paris, and Milan Fashion Week, worked as an actor with Disney, cast in several award winning cartoons, and written my own humanitarian book.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest driving factor is honestly the pure want to influence the world in a better way, any way I can. That’s what pushes me on to do better in my field. At the end of the day if I didn’t keep having the opportunities to work with charity foundations and make some peoples lives better, I wouldn’t find what I do and how hard I work actually worth all the stress.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Honestly, supporting the smaller companies and foundations out there instead of feeding the biggest loudest suppliers you see. Look for individual painters, small owned businesses, spreading support by word of mouth to your friends, and lots of other ways. Just pay more attention to the little guy and give them a leg up when you can.
