Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rae Can. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Rae, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
When I first started on this path, Reiki came into my life at a time when I needed it most. I was a busy mom with a full-time job, constantly pouring into everyone else, and I realized I had nothing left for myself. I needed a way to release the stress I carried every day, and Reiki became my lifeline.
What began as a personal practice quickly became a lifestyle. I noticed how different I felt, lighter, more centered, more connected to myself and the more I practiced and saw results in my own life, the more I wanted to understand what was happening. I began studying energy deeply, and eventually discovered hypnotherapy, realizing that many of the blocks I experienced were held in my mind.
As I decided to share this work professionally, the early days of establishing my practice were a mix of trial and error. Reiki and energy work weren’t widely understood back then, so many people doubted it. I tried everything to reach people, offering sessions in borrowed spaces, collaborating with other healers, and hosting events. Over time, my practice grew steadily as I built trust and connected with others.
The biggest lesson I learned was that community was essential. Connecting with people who valued the same healing work not only sustained me but helped my practice expand in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
Now, I have a private Reiki Hypnotherapy practice in Redondo Beach, Ca and online, filled with clients I see regularly who truly see the value in this work. I also teach classes to share this modality with others. My goal was to create a life I don’t need a vacation from and I did it!
Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every challenge deepened my practice and taught me something valuable about resilience, trust, and service.
For anyone considering starting their own practice, my advice would be simple: don’t give up on your vision. Even if the world isn’t ready for your work yet, trust that it has a place, and that the people who need it will find you. Stay committed, keep learning, and grow alongside your community, it makes all the difference.

Rae, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Rae, a Reiki Hypnotherapist, author of Morning Mantras: Forgiveness, and founder of The Handle Candle, a Reiki-infused candle shop. My work blends energy healing, mindset reprogramming, and spiritual guidance to help people release blocks, reconnect with themselves, and step into alignment with their purpose.
My path into this field came out of both personal need and curiosity. At one point, I was navigating a divorce, managing a full-time job, parenting, and dealing with physical stress that showed up as sciatica. Reiki became my sanctuary, helping me release tension and reclaim balance. As I experienced these shifts personally, I studied energy and eventually learned hypnotherapy to address deeper subconscious patterns that were holding me back.
Today, I work with clients through one-on-one Reiki hypnotherapy sessions, guiding them to overcome emotional, mental, and energetic blocks. I also teach classes to share these tools, empowering others to integrate this healing into their own lives. My approach is unique because it combines energetic release with subconscious reprogramming, giving clients not just relief but long-term transformation.
What sets my work apart is the focus on both the energetic and mental layers of healing, in a deeply personal, heart-centered way. I help clients feel lighter, more empowered, and capable of creating the life they desire, whether that means finding emotional clarity, improving relationships, or stepping into their personal power.
I’m most proud of my ability to have a healthy, balanced life now, and to maintain that while doing the work I love and helping others transform their lives.
What I want people to know about me and my work is that it’s about real transformation, delivered with compassion, intention, and expertise. I guide people to release what no longer serves them, reconnect with their highest selves, and step into lives of alignment, freedom, and fulfillment.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There are moments in life when you don’t just make a decision, you become the decision. For me, one of those moments happened recently. I had agreed to a collaboration that, from the outside, looked perfect: aligned purpose, audience, and impact. I was excited, ready to create, and believed it was exactly the next step for my work.
But as we dug deeper into planning, something in my body began to whisper… then speak louder… then finally roar. At first, I tried to ignore it, telling myself I didn’t want to cause conflict, that I shouldn’t be “too sensitive.” I communicated openly, I showed up, I tried to make it work. But the more I stayed, the more I realized I was being asked to shrink, to tolerate dynamics that felt emotionally coercive, and to sacrifice my truth to keep the peace.
That’s when the pivot happened. I chose to step away, not out of anger or fear, but out of alignment. It was a sacred decision, one that affected both my business and my personal life. Professionally, it meant letting go of an opportunity I had once been excited about. Personally, it required fully trusting myself, my boundaries, and my intuition.
In that moment, I realized that pivoting isn’t always about changing direction; sometimes it’s about reclaiming your voice, honoring your body, and choosing yourself even when it’s inconvenient. It was a realignment, not a rupture and it opened the door for collaborations, clients, and opportunities that resonate with my energy and values.
This experience reminded me that true growth often requires courage, patience, and faith in your own truth. The pivot wasn’t easy, but it strengthened both my business and my personal life in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele hasn’t been a tactic or marketing gimmick, it’s been staying fully in the work myself. I continue to practice what I preach, stay heart-centered, and remain connected to my intuition. That alignment allows me to show up authentically, and that authenticity has been the key to connecting with the people who truly need this work.
Word of mouth has been my greatest gift. When clients experience genuine transformation, they naturally share it with others, creating a ripple effect that grows organically. I trust the process and trust God’s plan, knowing that growth comes when the energy is aligned, not when I force it.
It’s not the kind of “strategy” people talk about often, but it’s the one that has consistently worked for me. Even through life’s storms, staying connected to my purpose and maintaining integrity in my work has not only expanded my practice but also brought abundance, joy, and fulfillment into my life.
