We were lucky to catch up with Jo Isaacson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jo, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our mission was born from the dreams of our founders, two of whom were professional touring musicians. They had several poor experiences with recording studios and producers; people who were hoping to leech off of their artistic dreams. Not only was it difficult to find someone who would produce quality results, but it was also nearly impossible to find complete solutions from one source–especially one that wouldn’t impede on their creativity and individual ideas of success.
Radio Ready Music’s mission is dedicated to empowering early career musicians with industry expertise and personalized support. We guide artists through the complexities of the music industry, prioritizing autonomy and creativity over industry pressures. We are here to champion the dreams of musicians and offer a supportive environment. Unlike traditional labels, RRM provides a holistic approach to music career development, enabling emerging artists to thrive independently. We believe in fostering meaningful connections with our clients, providing comprehensive consulting, production, and distribution services tailored to their unique visions and goals.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are Radio Ready Music, a hybrid recording studio and production company functioning out of Southeastern and Central Pennsylvania. We are the first to do what we do–following a unique hybrid model that allows us to come to our clients. This means we book studio space near the client, where and when it is convenient for them, and record them in that space. Our producer, Greg Smith, is particularly dedicated to working with artists individually to learn how they function in the studio, what their vision is, and how exactly they picture their sound.
Alongside recording, mixing, and production, Radio Ready Music also provides coaching, songwriting, mastering, and distribution services. We aim to be a “one stop shop” for artists, to support them from the very start until the very end, producing a radio ready product. RRM offers packages for singles, EPs, and LPs, as well as a unique subscription model for developing musicians who are looking for long term support.
Our three main differentiators are: complete solutions, simplicity, and that personalized touch. Artists can come to us with just a tune and our team can take that and turn it into a hit, start to finish. That’s our promise of a complete solution: you don’t need to go to ten different places, one for each step of the process. We are here to be all ten of those places, mixed into one.
We also pride ourselves in our simple solutions. Our business model allows musicians to focus on their art, instead of worrying about organizing every step of the recording and producing process. We handle all booking, mastering, and communications with other third party companies. Different packages at set prices provide results at a single price, making budgeting easier for artists. This allows for our clients to focus solely on their creativity instead of the minutiae of all moving parts.
Our team comprises multiple experienced musicians and music fanatics. This allows for us to be passionate, excited, and caring about artists and their sound. We know what it is like to work with people who only care about monetizing your music–we function differently. When you work with RRM, your vision is our priority.
Radio Ready Music wants our potential clients to know that we strive to be different, to pave a new road for artists that revolves around them instead of the expectations of the music industry.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
As many people know, it is often difficult for a start up to really kick off, especially with something as specialized as a local music production company. However, something that we quickly learned is that bands and artists respond very well to transparent and personal messages. We do a lot of discovery work as a team, finding musicians that have the talent and drive to make it big. Reaching directly out to discuss their music and efforts, whether that be through social media or direct messaging, has proven to be very successful. This shows just how close knit and passionate the music scene is in NEPA, as many of these groups and individuals have been excited and open to share their music and inspirations with us. Cold messaging may not work in many industries, but for us, we have found that showing excitement about art through these direct messages has been very successful.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
There is a look of excitement and wonder on every artist’s face when their vision comes to life. When they hear the perfectly mixed chorus of a song that had been writing for years. When they can finally post a song on a streaming platform and watch the numbers grow. When that first person comments on a social media post complimenting the song. First follows, first fans, first hits, first radio slots, first live performances. Being there, and being a part of the creative process, is the most rewarding aspect of this job for our team.
