We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Raddix (Josh Martin) a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Raddix thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
Yeah, I’ve definitely felt misunderstood being an EDM artist who’s also a vocalist. A lot of people automatically think of DJs or producers when they hear “EDM,” but I’ve always been more of a front-man type singing live, writing lyrics, and blending different genres. It was tricky at first to find my lane, but it actually pushed me to explore more. I started realizing my voice fit rock and blues too, and I’ve been fusing that into my EDM tracks. I’ve learned that being different isn’t a setback, it’s what sets you apart.

Raddix , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the music industry because I wanted to become what I wanted to see on stage. I remember going to my first EDM show & they brought out a rapper for one song, and the energy in the room instantly shifted. That moment made me realize how powerful it could be to have an artist who not only makes EDM but also sings, performs, and connects directly with the crowd. That inspired me to become that kind of artist.
Today, I perform live EDM shows that blend vocals, remixes, covers, and original tracks. What sets me apart is that I’m not just DJing a set I’m performing live as a vocalist in a space where that’s still pretty rare. I also record music for sync licensing opportunities and create across multiple genres, from EDM and hip-hop to country, cumbia, reggaeton, R&B, and indie. I take pride in being a versatile musician who can adapt to any sound or audience.
One of my proudest moments has been being featured on Antonio Vergara’s Vergara Street album, which is currently on the Grammy ballot, For Best Contemporary Blues Album, as well as the song Girls Wanna Have Fun with JKing The Hybrid also on the Grammy ballot this year. Being recognized by the Recording Academy has been an incredible honor.
At the end of the day, my message to everyone is simple: stay rad. Don’t let anything stop you from living a rad life!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is seeing how my music connects with people. Art is a form of expression, and I love seeing others express themselves through how they respond to my work. Whether it’s someone partying, working out, or just relaxing to my songs, it means a lot to know my music fits into different moments of their lives. Getting messages from fans who say my songs made their day or helped them through something really reminds me that I’m on the right path. Seeing that positive impact, that’s what makes it all worth it.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think the best way society can support artists and creatives is by valuing art as more than just entertainment. it’s culture, emotion, and storytelling all wrapped into one. Providing more grants, performance opportunities, and fair pay helps artists keep creating without constantly struggling to survive. I also think building stronger local networks between artists, venues, and businesses can help everyone thrive together. When a city invests in its creatives, it invests in its identity. Supporting artists means supporting the heartbeat of the community.
