We recently connected with Racquel Walters and have shared our conversation below.
Racquel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I knew even before all these successes that my 9-5 was not enough as far as me living out my multi-passions as well as how much money I could make. Even with overtime, I would earn a little more but this would also result in a cap in how much I could make.
It was when the bills started to pile up & me being broke until the next paycheck time & time again, that I finally decided that no more. I said to myself, Racquel you have to find another way to earn more while taking back some time to care for yourself and your family.
That’s when I explored starting a side hustle almost 10 years ago to make extra money and to test out my multi-passions. I was never really a “business person” back then, but I knew that this was the way to leverage my time and money if I found the right service and/or product that I believed in, was knowledgeable in, that aligned with my values and of course solved a problem for many. I also invested heavily throughout the years in top mentors in the business and personal growth and development industry to sharpen my skills coupled with working in corporate for the past 14 years and having the privilege to participate & contribute in the business side within a major hospital in the healthcare system.
Bottom line: I know how to build new business foundations & develop systems that help anyone to streamline & make a profit from their knowledge, talents, gifts, and passions.
10 years later, after starting my side hustle and having success, my passion is to help more people explore ways they can turn their idea or knowledge into income streams so that they can do work they love, earn more, and make an impact in their lives and others lives while living out and fulfilling their dreams of entrepreneurship even if they still decided to continue to work at their 9-5 jobs as most of my clients are what I call “professional millennials” having their careers.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I, Racquel Walters am a Clinical Social Worker, the CEO, and Millennial Income Strategist of Le’Ura, LLC. along with being a 2 X Bestselling Author, host of the Your Purpose & Business Podcast, and my new TV show: Your Purpose and Business Show broadcasting on My Network TV (My 9) in Harford/New Haven Connecticut coming in 2023.
I am a millennial who embraces the side gig economy and is driven to monetize my gifts to ensure that I will live life on my terms. Over the years, I have overcome the hurdles associated with juggling a 9-5 and side hustle and uncovered my purpose- helping professional millennials create multiple streams of income to live the life they want.
More recently, I am expanding my dual expertise to help these millennials break down their mental blocks, monetize their purpose-driven gifts, and harmonize their work and side hustle demands into consulting services to elevate their income and lifestyle.
I am known for my direct approach, evidence-based strategies, and passion for extending life options beyond the norm, and helping my clients maximize their skills to create lasting change.
I am now expanding my offering and sharing my signature Income System in the business consulting industry to help professional millennials sustain their impact at their 9-5, diversify their skills into multiple streams of income, find harmony and achieve a fulfilling life.
I offer 1:1 and group membership business and life consulting as well as offer courses that will help anyone to identify a business idea/skill or knowledge they have and turn it into income once it is tested in the marketplace. I also provide ongoing accountability and support to all my clients.
The main thing I want anyone to know is that once you believe in your abilities and potential then ANYTHING is possible once you are willing to do the work and execute your goals!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I started in the coaching/ consulting industry by hiring my first mentor 7 years ago. I did so by leveraging my personal credit and using my credit card, in the beginning, to invest in myself and my education. I also self-funded my business using income from my 9 to 5 job and I invested a lot of money and time into my mentors even to date. I believe that having mentors helps anyone to shortcut their path to having success in the area or areas of their life they want to see results in. Having mentors, coaches, and consultants and being in the right communities with like-minded individuals helps you to grow personally and professionally and maximizes your passions. Never be afraid to invest in yourself!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Starting my business 7 years ago, it took some failures and lessons along the way to get to where I am at today. One of my biggest lessons was that I had to realize the value and knowledge I provided to the marketplace and to the masses. A few years ago, I fell into the comparison game where I would look and see people who started their business after me propel faster, and that honestly caused me to think that I couldn’t compete in the marketplace, especially on social media where a lot of people market their “flashy” cars and jewelry as a sign of success and I didn’t represent that … that wasn’t me or how I wanted to attract new clients. It affected my mindset and challenged how I marketed my services, products and it also affected my sales as I thought I was not good enough, no one would want to work with me because I am not using “material things” and telling people to leave their jobs, and bashing the 9-5 workers in my marketing, thus I thought my work was not valued. I had to work on my mindset again and believe in the value and knowledge I bring through my business and to the many clients I have serviced who have seen results by working with me.
A bit of advice I would share with regard to resiliency is always to find ways to innovate your brand and business; look at the marketplace, see where the current needs and gaps are, and adjust accordingly. Have faith and believe in yourself, and in your brand, share your knowledge, continue to invest in yourself to learn new skills, collaborate, take action and be consistent!
