We were lucky to catch up with Racquel Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Racquel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
In 2018 I had the idea of creating something no one had seen that would be meaningful and useful. So I delved into designing handcrafted jewelry using paracord, copper wire jewelry, and precious stones. It was amazing what I learned in experimenting with my own techniques. Than 2020 hit and my love for jewelry making diminished. I realized I didn’t wear as much jewelry since I am such a simple person when it comes to these things. Covid gave me the opportunity to slow down & look at my priorities. So I decided to explore painting. Looking at youtube videos and taking small workshops online I was able to explore techniques, learn color theory, and really find what I really loved in art. I enjoyed learning from others, but what I wanted to do was find my own voice. That took alot of soul searching and looking into the why I wanted this so bad. Lots of sleepless nights & practice to figure out what type of artist I wanted to be. In May 2021 I had my aha moment when I made one piece of art and knew right away I had found my style my voice that described who I was as an artist without words. All this without any formal training, but true art that speaks from the heart.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a wife and mother of three boys who lives in Connecticut. I am originally from Pasadena,CA where I was surrounded by nature. My full-time job is an event coordinator for Yale University Quantum Institute. I create abstract impressionism art whenever I can as a way to express myself and get lost in a calm space since we are surrounded in such a chaotic world. My art has a botanical serene feel capturing the viewer so they can focus on their own inner calm. Slowing down and appreciating the simple things in life allows to regroup, refocus, and get back on track. This art is meant to bring the space it is in the feeling the viewer wants it to be. A place to call home wherever that may be.
I am proud for taking the risk to believe in myself. It took me real long time to be confident in what I do and show the world my true feelings. To actually say I am an artist and I love how I express who I am.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Seeing others really enjoy my work and how they have a real connection with it. May it be a new collector or someone looking to find their own voice just having those conversations with individuals is just very rewarding. The journey hasn’t been easy, but I love sharing my passion & the steps to get where I am today.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Constant engagement with my viewers. I notice posting at certain times during the day is helpful & using the proper hashtags. When someone likes or comments on my post I heart & send a response that way it is one on one engagement knowing you are dealing with a real person. This definitely takes lots of time and patience. I am still learning this side of the business that can be a bit annoying, but this way of sharing our creativity is the current avenue at this time.
