We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rachel Warmath a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I’d love to tell you about three of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on.
1) My first memoir. In June 2024 at the age of 36, I independently published a memoir called Alive in the Fire: The Journey to Inner Peace and Creative Power. The book is a genre-defying memoir that tells my story but also breaks the “fourth wall” and turns to you, the reader, to invite you to reflect on your own life. In this book, I explore the powerful connection between physical strength and creative confidence, sharing the lessons I’ve learned in embracing my body and letting go of perfectionism and hustle culture. You can find out more about the book on my website, www.rachelwarmath.com.
2) Another incredibly meaningful project was a ghostwriting project I did in 2020-2021. This was a memoir/inspiring book I ghost wrote for a CEO, elite fitness trainer, and former NFL player. His book became an Amazon bestseller and made a huge impact on his family and community. Tragically, he passed away unexpectedly a few years later, and that experience profoundly reinforced the importance of capturing and preserving our stories while we have the chance. It’s a mission I’m deeply passionate about.
Memoir is my favorite genre to work on because it has the power to leave a lasting legacy and transform lives for generations to come. Our process involved many hours of Zoom calls, phone calls, and meeting at his gym in northern California to discuss his outlook on life and the legacy he wanted to leave. He would send me bullet points, messy notes, ideas for chapters, and bits of stories from his own life. I would then shape and craft the narrative to bring the book together.
I love this creative process and seeing the finished outcome. Not only do you end up with a powerful story to share, but you discover things about yourself in the process. You build an immense amount of confidence in yourself and gain gratitude for life itself.
3) The third project that I must mention here is my health and wellness blog, Alive in the Fire (www.aliveinthefire.com). This space has been one of the most powerful things I’ve created and a website I’ve been building and writing for over a decade now. Every time I’ve posted on Alive in the Fire, I’ve built my confidence as a writer and found my voice. It’s given me so many wonderful opportunities to connect with yogis and wellness professionals around the world, too.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hey, I’m Rachel and I’m a multi-disciplinary writer and best-selling independent author. I’m based in the mountain west, living near the mountains in Salt Lake City, Utah. I grew up in northern California and moved here in 2021.
I am interested in the intersection of wellness and creativity, and helping people build confidence through movement, wellness, and self-expression. My mission is to help writers, dreamers, and badass humans who are committed to healing and transformation.
As a creative, I’ve held many roles: full-time copywriter on a creative team, poet, blogger, self-published author, editor for non-fiction books, memoir artist… the list continues to expand and grow as I evolve as an artist. What I’ve learned over the years is this: one of my primary purposes in this lifetime is to devote myself to the craft of writing and to elevate the voices of other writers. I am proud and passionate about what I do, and I absolutely love it!
If you’re a writer and need support in your creative journey, I’d love to connect. You can read more about my books and contact me through either of my websites:

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the greatest rewards of being an artist is the profound sense of freedom it brings—the freedom to express yourself openly, to translate your innermost feelings, thoughts, and experiences into tangible form. Over time, you begin to recognize the strength in your voice, understanding that what you create holds the power to move others, spark dialogue, and shape how people see the world.
You come to understand that the act of creation itself is an incomparable gift, and that the journey, with all its experimentation and growth, is every bit as meaningful as the final result. In embracing this truth, you live knowing that your work matters, and that the value of your artistry lies not just in what you produce, but in who you become along the way.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Finding a supportive writing community is so key if you want to reach your full potential as a writer. I highly recommend that wherever you are in the journey, whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been creating for a while and you want to expand, look for a community that “gets” you and where you feel safe to be seen and appreciated. It will light a fire under you and encourage you to grow in amazing ways when you know others have your back.
