We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rachel Villaverde. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rachel below.
Rachel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
When I work with someone, I want to hear the details of their business’ origin story. I hunker down with my client for a deep dive call (matcha in hand) and I record everything and take notes. During the call, I’ll ask intentional questions to help them uncover their own transformation so we can position them as the best person to serve their customers. This also helps me to frame up their mission and brand voice.
This thorough process ensures that my client uncovers all of their brilliance and are left with digestible, credible, and powerful stories they can use over and over again. (Think marketing materials, emails, podcast interviews, etc.)
From there, it’s smooth sailing to craft their web pages and messaging. Investing in copywriting is investing in the foundation of your brand. It’s truly invaluable and is the investment that keeps on giving back to you.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Rachel Villaverde, a conversion copywriter for my brand Rachel Verde. I help business leaders uncover their brilliance and put it down on paper (i.e. Google docs) so they don’t have to stress about writing for their business. Instead of traditional marketing techniques, I use uplifting and motivational language to steward my client’s story. I have a corporate background in digital marketing, SEO, and analytics, and enjoy fusing creativity with holistic media strategy.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
This is going to sound cheesy, but be true to yourself. I learned that it wasn’t until I completely owned my story and was honest with my audience on social media that I finally started getting qualified leads in my DMs. It’s better to be open about who you are and what you stand for (because you aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s a good thing) you’ll start to see that the people you can best serve will come out and find you. This is why I love copywriting! It’s all about being authentic to help the business owner connect with their best audience. I needed to take a spoonful of my own medicine and get honest on social and at events. That’s when I saw my clientele grow!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’ve always had an eye for natural beauty, an ear for a classic ensemble, and a “selah” pause in my soul. It wasn’t until I was 22 that I realized I was in pursuit of the One who created me. And if God created everything and everyone, it only makes sense for us to be creative too. It’s what drives me to cherish each moment and take my time with the people in my care. I’ve always enjoyed exchanging stories, so I feel that copywriting became a natural creative outlet. And on the days when I’m a block, I turn back to my well that never runs dry.
