We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Vasquez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Who really believes that owning your own business would be so much work. Social media has brainwashed us to believe life as a business own is just looking good, making money and traveling . Well let me tell you from experience I have worked every 9-5 you can think of and I work more now than I have ever worked before. I am so happy to be a business owner but is there times that get overwhelming? YES times I think about giving up the responsibility? Yes but to think how far I have come I just can’t picture clocking in to a place I feel no connection with. For me is not just one time you have this doubt it’s a on going things as an entrepreneur. Imposter syndrome is a thing and it can creep up on you but those days when can client sends you a text thanking you for what you, makes everything about having a business worth it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I like to think I am a force to be reckoned with. Born and raised in Milwaukee,WI where I received my A.A.S degree in Fashion merchandising and management in 2019. I wear many hats including: mother, wife, Owner of Rachel V. Cosmetics , Vasquez printing, Sheek Allure, Rachel V skin & beauty. I spent many years in the fashion industry, I am a creative who is determined to break the mold of what society’s version of what “professional” should look like through fashion and my beauty and skincare line. I understand that being different doesn’t mean being wrong, that being bold doesn’t mean disrespectful and being confident is sometimes loud. Through my creative lens, I am challenging the status quo one person at a time. I am determine to teach our community more about the importance of self care. I received my Certification as an aesthetician from
Milwaukee area technical college back in 2020. As a state licensed Skincare therapist I specializes in skin care, waxing, and natural body treatments. After working in an amazing spa for over a year I decided to open my own spa suite. I have been open now since November 2021. November 2022 I opened the doors on newly remodeled full service spa in shorewood, Wisconsin. This new journey has been a blessing and I can’t wait to expand. I am breaking generational curses one facial/ wax at a time.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Fashion was my original first love so back in 2016 I teamed up with a family member and a friend to open Sheek 911 boutique store front in Wisconsin. I was so excited really thought I was walking in my purpose but after two years of trying to make ends we had to shut the doors. Heartbroken is an understatement. But soon after so realize it was not my purpose.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth is always always always keep my name in rooms I haven’t even entered into.
