We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Urton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I fell in love with the power of essential oils while having a membership to one of the big companies. I loved having the tools to make my home smell good and relieve simple ailments that always seem to come around with being a mom of three kids. In 2020, I quit my job and became a stay-at-home mom, something i had always dreamed of. I knew I needed something outside of just being a mom and saw a need to get ready to use essential oil products into the hands of busy moms. My friends around me would forget the option of using their essential oils or just not have the bandwidth to deal with researching what oils they needed, keep up with their monthly subscriptions, or make the the blend. I decided to move away from that big company and make my own products that are not your average oil co! I lovingly call myself “your oil bestie”, I individually handcraft every single product and walk people through how to use each product. It’s a much more unique and less intimidating approach to use and understand the power essential oils can have on your life. We can use them to support mild health needs, emotional needs, and make our homes smell amazing all without any toxic ingredients.
Rachel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Rachel and I am a wife, mom, and small business owner. I spend my weekdays *trying* to manage all the things that come with being a mom of three littles and weekends are carved out for family time, vendor events, and church. I sell non-toxic, only natural products that include rollers of essential oils to help with several ailments, beauty products that include hair serum, face serum, and perfumes, and home fragrance products; diffusers, room sprays, and diffuser blends. In this world of trying to read labels and figure out hidden meanings behind how companies hide toxins is just exhausting. My customers and new customers know they can ask me absolutely any questions. Customer service is the number 1 priority and I love the community that we have built and continue to build. If there is an issue, I will always fix it, if a certain blend doesn’t work for a certain aliment, we will try a different blend. Each customer is unique and special and they will always be treated that way.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I needed to unlearn was that my path is just that, my path. I was constantly looking to others and their growth and comparing. I have such a niche product that I had to unlearn traditional growth blueprint and pave the way for myself. I’m learning the best way to do that is to be myself and share my heart behind each product and the company. I know I can change lives and help people. I’m not around just for the quick viral moment, I’m here for the long haul and whether I sell one product this year or thousands, I will continue to grow and pave my own path.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Starting your own business is really REALLY difficult. Most people thought I was a little nuts, but I had a few that believed I could fly, even when I didn’t believe it myself. There was one late Friday night, I was so tired and had been working on prepping for a local market and I was ready to quit. I just felt it wasn’t worth the stress anymore and sometimes when I am tired the negative things in my mind win out. The next day I got approved to be a vendor at a weekly farmers market here and had one of the best markets I have ever had. I just needed to get some sleep and keep going!
