Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rachel Spiro-Moore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rachel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful, I feel you need consistency and obsession! My obsession, I mean waking up every single day with the decision to grind no matter what.
I remember when starting my business, there were weeks without a single sale or contact. I could have given up after just a few months of only marketing and no sales, but consistency and never giving up has created the success I have today!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Radiant Physique Wear is all 100% custom bodybuilding competition suits and bikinis for every body.
I was preparing for my first bodybuilding competition, and I had ordered my bikini online. I had very little communication from the designer, and I received my suit the day before the competition thank goodness. When I received the suit, I thought to myself “I can figure out how to make these”. At the time, I was bartending at an Italian restaurant, and having just done my first show, we were broke. My husband took our last $100, and invested in me by purchasing my first sewing machine.
I learned how to sew, learned how to bling, and learned how to do business-all self taught! Over the years, my business continues to grow, and this year I have already doubled sales (already in May) from the year before.
I feel what sets me apart from the rest is how I do business. I care about the connection and the relationships built along the way. I would rather have a smaller sale and have a higher return rate, than have a big sale and never hear from them again. I keep my business small so I can continue doing business how I do business.
All my suits are 100% custom to my clients bodies. I take comprehensive measurements, do fittings, and design the whole bikini! Each bikini is cut and sewn by me, and each rhinestone is placed one at a time on the bikinis. Each suit I try to make unique in every way, and provide my clients with a great experience!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
At the time I was deciding to start my business, my husband and I had just competed and were pretty down on our luck financially. My husband invested our last $100 on purchasing my first sewing machine. We had gotten some materials for me to leave how to sew a potholder. Through working at the bar I was bartending at, I slowly purchased materials, as I could afford to, to build some inventory. Every dime I made in this business I reinvested back in to this business.
As the business grew, I started sponsoring bodybuilding shows, traveling doing pop up shops, and generating business and growing teams in different areas in the United States!
How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ve always known that social media is king for marketing online. It’s free, and there is a chance to connect with people worldwide.
I started the business brand new with no following. I brought on a few athletes in different states to help promote the brand online. I feel with any social media marketing, consistently posting and providing information as to how product is made/quality has been huge. I also try to ensure timely responses and be seen on social media either by responding to messages, stories and posts.
Advice I have for those just starting to build on social media is consistency and to be patient! Some have overnight success on social media-that hasn’t been my story. I had to continue to be willing to put in the work until it became second nature.
