We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Segura recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Throwback.Hussle holds a lot of meaning behind it. When coming up with name it took a good amount of time to figure out which name fit best. Diving into the vintage business we wanted the name to have a bit of history behind along with a name related to the community we became apart of. First part was throwback because for many years building up a collection of items from sports to band shirts. But Hussle is part of the name that has the biggest meaning. In memory of Nipsey Hussle his hustle mentality has always been very inspiring to us. The way he focused on his career and who he was as a person has always been very inspiring. Throwback.Hussle holds a lot of memories and growth in the name. After 5 years of starting this business is has created a name for itself. One that is unique but also holds who we are and take a lot of pride in it.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Rachel Segura owner of Throwback.Hussle. It is a vintage clothing business we sell clothing from the late 70s to early 2000s. Currently reached 5 years in the business started off collecting and soon learned about making it into a business. Since making the decision it has brought many opportunities and friendships with some of the most amazing, creative and talented people.
We are very proud of the creative growth and the many opportunities we have taken to grow the business. But also the passion we have for vintage clothing is shown in every piece of clothing we collect or sell. When setting up for an event we choose pieces to make every experience of shopping with us a great one. From choosing a T-shirt to a jacket. Everyone can leave with one item they are happy with. There’s always going to be something for everyone.

How did you build your audience on social media?
We built our audience by being consistent with posting items we collected or are selling. But when at events we would meet many different people each time and grew our audience in that way as well. Along with collaborating with other friends at events. One advice I always say is stay true to yourself and collect or sell the items you like along with putting your own style into your business.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
By adding our own style and favorite items to the page or events is one way that helped keep a unique style. One item that made our collection and page is our no doubt collection. It has evolved over the years. We recently had an event for the collection in September last year. It was one that was special and many were excited to see the collection and event. For us being the page that has one of the many large no doubt collection it more special to see it all come together from the tshirts to the band Not No Doubt perform our favorite songs.
