We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rachel Ross. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rachel below.
Rachel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I can say I found out I wanted to pursue the passion for arts after quitting my highest paying job of my life. I was working at the airport, as a supervisor for my department. I over seen over 10 plus employees. I was get to be paid almost $20/hour. I did that for like two years comfortably but then I felt stuck. I felt as if I wasn’t using all my skills there. I wanted more and I wanted to be electrified. My thrill to go to work wasn’t exciting anymore. Then Covid hit I stayed miles away from San Antonio in the woods of mountain home Texas. I had plenty time to self reflect on what I really wanted out of life. I revisited a passion I had from high school from watching one of my favorite shows, americas next top model. So I started to pose for my camera in the woods and then found an agency to get comfortable with. I learned a few things and then decided to just be free lance model after a year with the agency. I love it it’s freeing just how I prefer to live my life. It’s very tough but I like a challenge. I got my first paid fashion show and I was amped every since. I was like I can make money doing something I’m passionate about. Yes yes yes! I have now been. Working hard at learning all I can about the modeling industry and fashion world. I have also started learning more about the entertainment world. Some acting is coming soon for me, this will be my biggest challenge but I’m ready. I have had a few acting opportunities, so much to learn. Music videos are fun it matches my energy more, I have been able to do a few. I just want to me to growing and having fun while working. That’s the dream. Let’s work, book me for acting, modeling, dancing and runway!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well I want my brand to stand for Positive Energy. I feel as though I give this off and it fuels me. I have always been such a light. I just want the world to be seen in more of a lighter way. It’s so heavy with all the negativity that I want to spread nothing but positivity. I have experienced moments in my life where it’s been so negative that it was life threatening. I decided after a near death experience that I was going to stay positive for the rest of it. I was bullied as a younger child, then closed myself off to where I stayed in sports and extra curriculum clubs. Then my last year of high school I told myself no more. I build up confidence to go on stage, I won prom queen and left to go to college. Then I started my family a maturing few years of my adulthood. I learned so much about myself, how to act towards negative situations and turn them into positive experiences. After starting my family, I went through a rough time adjusting to my new life. It just really showed me that life is really fragile and I want to experience it all. The good and bad. I will experience negative things but it won’t control me. I want this to be the mission to never allow negativity control my life again. So I use positivity everyday, I choose the positive perspective and it actual just fits my personality. Eager for enjoyment, fun, creative and Loving. This change of life has helped me meet amazing people. Made connections to my now current job as a marketing assistant for a hair salon. The owner Kait Hines encouraged me to start my own business called waisted by Léhcar. I make handmade custom beaded jewelry and accessories. Besides modeling, being a mother and wife; I also drive around the city delivering groceries for an app called Favor. I am a busy body, hard to jungle but manageable. You just have to have a balance. My ultimate goal is to have a full balanced lifestyle. Which is why I am free lance, to me it just means I have the freedom to make my own decisions based on my lifestyle right now. I would like to have a team to push me a bit more but it just has to be the right team. There is so much more of Rachel that will be shared but for now I am making more effort in building Léhcar. Sharing my ego and individual because I want her to shine and thrive first. So model Léhcar is an entrepreneur trying to share positive experiences in this negative world. I’ll do this by sharing my skills and talents through the arts of crafting and creating. I am most proud of this that I have been actual my happiest now in my adulthood, with my family and jobs.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society can support more upcoming artist give them that chance to show what they can add to this community. Provide a more inviting atmosphere for all creative people. Welcome all to express themselves as I have seen many changes within this community.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I do wish I could have been in the performing art community while in high school so that I could have had an head start within this community I am joining now. I didn’t quit have the confidence then and as my confidence continues to rise it’s not as easy to network. I feel if I knew more about this community then and work with other creatives I would be more confident. Resources like who to reach out to when wanting to join this community as far as sponsorship. I am still working on getting to know more about financial assistance because with out funds you really can’t go to far. I find things moves quickly this was instead of trying to do it alone.
