We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rachel Nuzzolese. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rachel below.
Rachel, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have always loved to watch, learn and play soccer. Growing up I played competitive soccer and worked my way up to play for the USA Youth National Teams, D1 soccer at Wake Forest University and professionally out in California for two seasons. After moving to Maryland I wanted to give back to the game by teaching and leading young athletes to tap into their potential and build their confidence on and off the field.

Rachel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Playing at the highest level and representing my country was a complete honor. I made sure I was out training anyone I would go against. Besides attending my club practices, I had a personal soccer trainer, performance coach and practiced countless hours on my own. I had great coaches and not so great ones throughout my career and I learned from that. After I finished playing, I wanted to be a role model especially for the young females. I never had a female coach and I wanted young girls to see and lead from one that played at that level. The rapport I have with my clients is special and cherished. I treat them with respect and really care about their well being. The positive environment at Soccer By Rachel sets me apart from other trainers and coaches.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My clients are the best. I don’t do too much marketing except posting on instagram and Facebook. It grows organically through word of mouth and having players doing well on and off the field.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I started this business by myself. I had a dream and I knew it would be special. I started training clients out on a local soccer field. I saved up and had no overhead. Once I had enough money saved, I opened up a 1,560sq space and started training clients there. 6 months later I opened my second location which was 4,800sq, then 5 months later my third location which was 4,850sq. I grew into the spaces, had amazing staff and created a product that was one of a kind.
