We recently connected with Rachel Nichols and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
When we hear of people starting businesses – oftentimes, we think about the physical groundwork and housekeeping, like establishing your business name, your LLC, your platforms. What we do not hear enough about, is the mental and spiritual groundwork and housekeeping that has to be done in order to even get started.
I spent about a year or more wanting to start my business and wresting with the “maybe when xyz”, “I will do it after xyz”, the self criticisms of imposter syndrome, and the doubts of there being space for me in the saturated hormone coaching market. When the fear of living small became greater than the fear of “failing” – I jumped.
I committed to building my business with every cell of my being. I had debt from university, and was living essentially paycheck to paycheck. In opposition to basically any boomer advice, I took out a line of credit to invest into my business – to receive certifications, work with business mentors, and learn all that I could.
All I started with was Instagram and a basic website with Squarespace. I posted valuable content every day for months, speaking to my Instagram stories, sharing my life with my 100 or less followers, all while working my 8-5 job. I held the vision. Before I knew it, 100 turned to 4000, 4000 turned to 10000, 10000 turned to 25000. Within just 6 months of starting my brand, Restoring Eve, I hit my first 5 figure month.
My business was born from a heart rooted in service, committed to showing women that they are worthy of more, because I myself believed I was. I get to wake up every day in gratitude for this life I have created, and now have even begun business coaching so that I can show others how to do the same.
My advice to anyone wanting to get into the coaching industry is to show up, to start before you are ready. You can only commit to your clients, to your business, to the degree of which you have committed to yourself and your own purpose. Stop caring what people think of you (everyone is thinking about themselves). People will judge you for believing in yourself (let them). Drop into the WHY of your heart, and follow it bravely and devotionally. Trust the timing of your life, and the nudges of your being.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Rachel Nichols. I am a women’s hormone coach, mentor, and trauma informed hypnotherapist. I support women into their homecoming – mind, body, and soul. I believe that every physical symptom, dis-ease, & imbalance is rooted in the emotional body and subconscious beliefs. I believe that trauma can be stored in the body and will expressed again and again, yearning to be healed. Using multifaceted modalities such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, Aryuveda, Western Medicine, Germanic New Medicine, and Hypnotherapy, I support women in restoring their vitality.
I graduated from university with my Bachelor of Science in Biology, originally planning on going to medical school with an interest in Gynecology and Womens Health.
After some time, I recognized that I would not be able to serve women to the capacity that I was desiring in this space- so I started doing my own research. I invested in certifications, read books constantly, and dove into every outlet of learning that I could get my hands on to learn about eastern medicine, trauma, and the emotional body. I saw the absolute need for a bridge in the women’s health industry, and that is where Restoring Eve was born.
The thing that sets my business apart, is my multidimensional approach to healing, and my customization. Not only do we address the physical, with alterations such as nutrition, supplementation, and lifestyle adjustments and shifts, but we also address the emotional and spiritual. Emotional healing in my practice is rooted in trauma informed hypnotherapy, and somatic release practices. As women in todays society, we are told consciously and subconsciously that emotional expression is unsafe and is (simply put) not the way to be a “good girl”. At a young age, we learn to repress and/ or dump our emotions. I teach my clients practices to expand their nervous systems capacity to hold sensation, as well as practices to release the emotions that are stored in their being, contributing to their physical symptoms.
In my practice, I offer 1:1 3 and 6 month mentorship packages, group programs, and 6 month business coaching, and a membership – all offering mind, body, and soul healing.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think that one of the most important things when starting your business on social media is to have an authentic voice. Essentially, to just not give a crap what people think about you. It can be so easy to get caught up in comparison and needing things to seem a “perfect” way. The truth? Perfect is boring, and everyone is over it. If you are thinking too much, your not dropped into your essence enough. A couple tips for anyone starting their social media business – stop following people in your industry. I do not follow any hormone coaches for a reason: I do not want to sound like anyone but myself. A second place to start while getting in touch with your voice is getting in the mood. Play some inspiring music, breathe deeply, connect to your why, and then (and only then) start creating your content for the day/ week. It is easy to think that the market is “saturated” – and maybe it is, but that does not matter. The market is only saturated if you are doing what everyone else is doing. No one is you. Let that be your edge.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
One million times again, yes. The only thing I would change is starting sooner.
