We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rachel Lumbreras a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel , appreciate you joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
Ah, social media. It can be one of the most important tools in the Photography industry (sharing our beautiful clients with the world) but it can easily be one of the most crippling. I manage my own social media and I plan on keeping it that way!
Rachel , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Rachel Lumbreras and I own Lighthouse Creative. I am a young creative (photographer, songwriter, worship leader) and wife to my husband Jon! We have a 5-year-old Chiweenie named Dobby!
A few years ago my heart for creativity and love for people came together to start Lighthouse Creative. Using photography to tell your story authentically and creatively is my passion! Whether you’re booking us for your wedding day, for your annual family pictures, or anything in between we want to help you create lasting memories you’ll want to relive over and over again!
I am a full-time photographer based out of Denton, Texas! I’m not the photographer that just shows up does the job and leaves! When you book Lighthouse Creative you get a cheerleader, support system, and a friend for LIFE! Lighthouse Creative values community, collaboration, and creativity!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The best way I’ve found to grow my clientele is by taking care of the people I’ve already been given! Remembering anniversaries, texting clients after they’ve had a new baby, etc.! Some people like to keep their life and social media accounts separate from clients, but I find it to be the thing that stays with a client and keeps them recommending me to others! A personal recommendation is going to almost ALWAYS end in a booking! People are more likely to rust a personal recommendation over a Google review from someone they don’t know.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first started my business I put SO much pressure on myself to be consistent and relevant on social media. During the pandemic, I quickly learned that people are craving “real”. The perfect aesthetic and filters are fun for a little while but it doesn’t make you feel seen or connected. My social media both personally and professionally looks different now. I post when I want to and when I’m feeling inspired. If thinking of a caption or trying to edit an Instagram reel just right makes me anxious I won’t post. It’s been really freeing and I feel like the content I DO share is coming from a more authentic place.
