We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rachel Hubbard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
That’s a great question. When I think about it, I feel the timing was meant to be, though sometimes I wish I had started earlier. Still, every experience before this helped prepare me.
I officially started my astrology business about three years ago. That was during my Saturn return and the pandemic, a time of deep reflection for everyone, including me. But my journey actually began much earlier.
After college with a Sociology degree and minor in Education, I committed to a career in retail management at 22. I loved the human connection—working with teams, understanding customer dynamics, and noticing the subtle patterns in how people related to me and to each other. While rewarding, I had a persistent feeling of searching for a deeper passion, a true calling that I hadn’t yet found.
My retail job moved me from Florida to California, and that change was a turning point. In California, I discovered a more open and expansive approach to astrology. It felt like sociology, but on a deeper level, helping me understand why people interact the way they do. I started studying my own chart on the side while still working in retail.
Then, during the pandemic and my Saturn return, everything crystallized. It felt like a clear internal directive to dedicate myself fully to this path. I found a mentor, plunged myself into study, and began integrating tarot. The skills came across as less like new learning and more like an awakening. The alignment was undeniable, and I officially launched my business to help others through this lens.
If I had started right after college, I wouldn’t have the life and management experience that now helps me connect with clients. Retail helped me develop patience, service, and the ability to talk with all kinds of people—skills that are key to any service business. I might have learned the technical side sooner, but I would have had less wisdom.
If I had started later, I might have missed the unique moment of openness and connection during the pandemic, which helped my business find its first community. Things might have turned out differently.
Looking back, it’s easy to wish I had started sooner, but I truly believe the timing was right. My earlier career wasn’t a detour—it was a way to learn about people. That time gave me real-world experience, which makes my practice genuine and grounded. My progression involved more than simply learning facts; it was about gaining the experience I now use in every chart reading. I’m grateful for the support I’ve had and excited for what’s ahead.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Rachel Hubbard, and at my core, I am a teacher and a guide. My professional path is rooted in astrology and tarot, but my mission is to provide Cosmic Relief—using the wisdom of the stars to offer clarity, context, and, above all, a positive, empowering perspective during life’s challenging transitions.
My journey here has been beautifully winding, and I genuinely treasure every step that brought me to this work. I’ve always carried a teacher’s spirit—I initially imagined myself in a traditional classroom, but when that path didn’t resonate, I discovered I could mentor and guide through retail management, supporting young teams as they grew. It was meaningful work, yet I found myself searching for a richer framework to understand the deeper patterns of human connection and the cycles that shape our lives.
That framework arrived powerfully during my Saturn Return, which unfolded alongside the pandemic—a profound invitation for introspection. My Saturn in Aquarius (which governs higher knowledge and belief systems) was calling me toward something new and deeply purposeful. As I immersed myself in astrology, I experienced this wonderful recognition: here was the language I’d been searching for, the framework that gave voice to everything I’d intuitively understood about people and the rhythms that shape our lives. Tarot followed naturally as a complementary practice for daily guidance. What began as a deeply personal study quickly resonated with others—friends and early clients found genuine comfort and clarity in our sessions, and I knew I’d discovered something truly meaningful.
My practice grew organically from there, shaped by incredible collaborations that built my confidence. I wrote horoscopes for astrologer Alex Caiola, co-founded the ‘Soulful Sundays’ community in Santa Monica (blending astrology, tarot, and breathwork), and later served as the in-house astrologer for Alex’s agency. These experiences taught me how to translate cosmic concepts into accessible, practical guidance for diverse audiences.
The services I provide are all aimed at one goal: transforming uncertainty into understanding. I offer:
* Personalized Natal Chart & Tarot Readings: Deep-dive sessions that provide clarity on personal strengths, relationship dynamics (synastry), career pivots, and major life cycles.
* Event Astrology: Curated guidance for selecting optimal dates for weddings, business launches, or significant moves.
* My weekly podcast, Cosmic Relief: This is my passion project and my primary way of teaching. Every Monday, I break down the day-by-day astrological weather. When other sources moved away from this granular format, I saw a need: to be a reliable, weekly source that helps people navigate energies in real time with a supportive, proactive mindset.
What I help my clients solve is a sense of being overwhelmed or lost within their own story. Life’s transitions—breakups, career changes, family dynamics, personal doubts—can feel chaotic and personal. I help clients reframe these moments not as random punishments, but as part of a navigable cosmic curriculum. I give them the language of their own chart, helping them see their challenges as necessary phases for growth and their innate talents as tools to use deliberately.
What sets me apart is my foundational commitment to positivity and empowerment. Even when discussing difficult transits, my approach is gentle, supportive, and always focused on your agency and potential. To share a bit of personal astrology for context: my Leo Sun ensures I frame everything with heart and genuine hope; my Gemini Moon and Rising give me the ability to translate complex cosmic concepts into conversational, relatable insights. I don’t just deliver information—I deliver Cosmic Relief. My intention is for every client to walk away feeling lighter, more confident, and equipped with a constructive perspective that serves them in real, tangible ways.
I am most proud of building a trusted community through authenticity. From hesitantly offering my first readings to now hosting a podcast with a growing loyal audience, the trust people place in me is my greatest honor. I’m proud of taking the leap to create Cosmic Relief independently, turning a perceived market gap into my signature offering.
Above all, I want potential clients and listeners to know this: My brand is built on the belief that nothing is happening to you; it’s happening for you. My work is designed to help you see the map of your life with kinder eyes, understand your unique role in the cosmos, and move through every phase with more grace and confidence. You can join the conversation every Monday with the Cosmic Relief podcast, and for personalized guidance, I invite you to reach out via [email protected].

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely. At its core, my mission is to provide actionable clarity and spiritual resilience in uncertain times.
We’re living through a period of serious collective shift that can feel chaotic and divisive. It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed—by world events, by personal challenges, by the relentless pace of change. My goal is to be a stabilizing presence, helping you navigate this complexity not as a passive observer but as the conscious author of your own experience.
I believe the way we meet external turmoil is directly connected to our internal state. When we avoid our own cycles, fears, and questions, we diminish our capacity to show up meaningfully in the world. My work uses astrology and tarot as frameworks to help you decode your personal journey within the larger cosmic narrative. It’s about shifting from feeling at the mercy of events to recognizing your role as an active, empowered participant in your own life.
Ultimately, my mission is both inclusive and deeply empowering: to help you realize that your unique path—with all its specific challenges and gifts—isn’t separate from the whole, but a vital contribution to it. By understanding your own ‘inner weather,’ you can operate from a place of genuine authenticity and personal power. I strive to be the guide who walks with you through both the light and the shadow, fostering a deep sense of trust in your own journey and, by extension, in our shared human capacity for growth and meaningful connection.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most transformative strategy in building my practice has been an internal shift: moving from a hobbyist mindset to fully embracing my professional identity. For a long time, my biggest barrier to growth wasn’t external—it was my own hesitation. Like many entrepreneurs, I struggled with imposter syndrome, which showed up in how I talked about my work. I’d describe it vaguely as ‘doing astrology things,’ which naturally didn’t inspire confidence or help curious people become clients.
The pivotal change came when I consciously claimed my title and owned my expertise, regardless of whether this was my sole source of income. I came to understand that being an astrologer isn’t defined by financial metrics alone—it’s defined by the depth of my study, the integrity of my practice, and my genuine commitment to serving clients. This shift in self-perception was both strategic and deeply empowering.
Now, when someone asks what I do, I respond with clarity and confidence: ‘I’m an astrologer and tarot reader.’ This simple declaration opens doors. I guide people directly to my podcast, Instagram, and booking information, creating a clear and welcoming path to my services. This confidence naturally extends to public events—studio openings, community gatherings—where I serve as a reader. I now arrive prepared not just with my tarot cards, but with business cards and QR codes, honoring every interaction as an opportunity for meaningful professional connection.
By speaking about my work with genuine conviction, I’m not just sharing information—I’m communicating a clear, authentic message about who I am and what I offer. This confidence has become my most powerful asset. It naturally attracts aligned clients and has been instrumental in building meaningful connections within my community, which continues to fuel sustainable, organic growth in my practice.
