Rachel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The idea for my business came very organically. My interest in marketing began with my sister’s work running a scholarship fundraiser in honor of our late mother, the Lori Sorrentino Hennessey Scholarship. That experience sparked my initial love for marketing, and through my time at university, this interest evolved into a passion for website design.
One of my first opportunities to work on a website came through my part-time waitressing job during college. I started by editing small parts of the restaurant’s website, and before I knew it, I was designing custom websites for several notable businesses in the Jersey City area including Laico’s, Edward’s Steakhouse, and Costanza Realtors. Realizing how naturally it came to me and how much I enjoyed it, I decided to turn my passion for marketing into a full-time website design business.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Rachel Hennessey, I am twenty years old and I just graduated from Kean University this spring with a degree in marketing. I was born and raised in Jersey City and my parents always instilled the importance of supporting our local businesses which eventually translated into working with small businesses in my own business endeavor. I work with small businesses to design custom websites based on their specific needs and aesthetic preferences. I help set up their social media pages and aesthetics, and I work with companies to create posts, flyers, custom logos, etc. Essentially, I help as much or as little as the company needs based on their current presence, preferences, and budget. I am most proud of my commitment to work with small businesses to help create or enhance their digital footprint to ensure that they aren’t left behind in today’s digital age.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for our business is word of mouth. While social media is a great way to create brand awareness, when it comes to business-to-business marketing, satisfied customers create new customers. By focusing on creating the best product for our clients needs and budget, their satisfaction translates into positive reviews, generating new clients.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think our transparency, consistency, and commitment to customers is what has helped us build a reputation in the web design market. We are committed to delivering the very best product to each and every customer. This coupled with our promise to work with customers to deliver them a product within their budget helps us stand out in the web design industry. Other small businesses choose to work with us because they appreciate and understand the dedication small businesses consistently deliver that big businesses can’t compete with. To put it simply, our small business values have helped us build a solid reputation for consistent, top of the line work.
