We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rachel Griesinger a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Photography is more than a job for me; it’s a passion to capture memories that my clients can cherish forever. I understand the power of a single photo, frozen in time, to evoke deep emotions.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m Rachel, a wife, mother, nurse, and photographer. My interest in photography began when I was very young. My mother passed away when I was only 4, and I would spend hours pouring over the photo albums she left behind, studying her face and seeing the world through her eyes. Photos of her were all I had of her, and they meant the world to me. My friends and family know me as the one who always has a camera in her hands. I even took my fellow cohorts’ headshots for our nursing school graduation. I encourage my clients to just relax and be themselves in front of the camera. We’re all too critical of ourselves sometimes, but it’s important to capture these moments, even if we’re not feeling our best. As someone who has lost family members, I’m so grateful for the photos I have to look back on and remember the good times. Even if it wasn’t a good time, I can still see how far we’ve come.

Have you ever had to pivot?
It wasn’t until 2020 that I finally took the leap to take my photography and myself more serious. I finally decided to listen to my friends and family who had been repeatedly telling me to start up a business with it. I completely jumped out of my comfort zone with both feet and looked for a photography community. And let me tell you what an amazing journey that has been. I found myself some of the best people. I have found fellow photographers who were so kind and eager to help me. They have become some of the best friends. They have helped me with how to edit better, faster; have pushed me to challenge myself. And all around have helped shape me into the photographer I am today.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I started my photography business with my trusty Canon Rebel T4i, the camera I learned on and used for about 12 years. I can tell you that you don’t need expensive equipment to be good. With that camera, I learned the absolute fundamentals of photography and worked on my techniques. I set aside money from every job to save up for more lenses and a better camera. I slowly built up my collection and am still saving to invest in more equipment and props for my business.
