We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Grant recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
As long as I can remember I’ve had a paintbrush in my hand. I spent my childhood drawing anything and everything I was interested in, but my main inspiration has always been from nature.
This love of artmaking led me to Auburn University, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts, and later to the Savannah College of Art and Design for my M.F.A. in Painting. Throughout my career, I’ve worn many hats: art consultant, gallerist, educator, and, of course, artist. I’ve had the pleasure of showcasing my work at events like Atlanta’s “Spotlight on Art” and Charleston’s The Scouted Studio Emerging Artist Showcase. I’ve had the honor of exhibiting my work around the globe, from New York City to France, Hong Kong, and South Korea.
Then came marriage to a golfer! I painted a golf course scene as a gift for my husband’s office, and before I knew it, his colleagues and friends were asking for their own golf-inspired pieces. That’s how The Golf Course Artist came to life.
Now, I’m on a mission to create vibrant, contemporary art that celebrates golf courses and the pure joy of the game.

Rachel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Through The Golf Course Artist, my mission is to create original art that captures the spirit of golf. I create custom commissioned paintings for individuals and work directly with golf clubs.
Right now is such an exciting time in my creative journey. I’ve partnered with my first PGA golf course, TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, GA, to create original artwork for their club, along with a collection of fine art prints and notecards for their pro shop.
I recently took another big step with my artwork now available at Westside Market in Midtown Atlanta, as part of the Women4Women booth, a community of women creatives and entrepreneurs who believe in collaboration over competition. I’ve also connected with an emerging, female-owned golf apparel brand, which has been a fun way to build community within the sport.
Many collectors purchase my work as gifts, and I love that the spirit of my first golf painting, a gift to my husband, continues in that way. It’s rewarding to see my art become part of the memories and experiences that golfers and collectors can take home with them.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal with The Golf Course Artist is to capture the beauty of the course, the calm of being outdoors, and the memories made along the way. Many of my custom paintings become meaningful gifts that celebrate a favorite pastime or a special round. I love that my art can hold those memories and serve as a reminder of why people love the game in the first place. Moving forward, I aim to partner with more clubs, creating personalized artwork that their members will cherish and that makes their spaces truly unique.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Patrons can support artists by attending exhibitions, following their work on social media, and, of course, purchasing original artwork. Collecting art doesn’t have to be intimidating; it can be as meaningful as investing in a signature piece or as simple as purchasing an artist print or attending a paint-and-sip event led by an artist. Every gesture of support helps build a stronger, more connected creative community. Not to mention, owning original art makes a space truly like no other!
