We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rachel Frosch. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rachel below.
Rachel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I have four kids. I absolutely love being a mom, but it has also broken me at times. I have experienced anxiety, loneliness, guilt, and fear. However, the story we don’t often hear is that with all that it has taken (naps and brunch dates especially) through the work of being broken I have been rebuilt. My mom (a very quotable person in her own rite) gave me this question as an offering to people as to why I am building Mom Badge – ‘What if when you became a mom instead of losing yourself, you found yourself?’ On this side, four kids into the journey I have found a new person. I didn’t know what I was capable of, how strong I was, how deeply I could love, how little I am in control, how much of myself I had to give until after thirty seven hours of labor, two hours of pushing every ten seconds, and an emergency delivery I held my first baby and finally understood this whole time it was about who I would become on the journey and so much more about him. Loving him and giving everything to him transformed me.
I am inspired to help meet moms as they risk loving. Early on I learned that the line between surviving and thriving is very thin. It is often a small thing that lifts me out of the lowest moments. A friend sharing a similar experience, a listening ear, laughing at how crazy my experience was, or a kind word when things are just really hard. Mom Badge invites users, both those who send badges and receive them, to be reminded they are not alone. Mom Badge creates a simple, beautiful way for a mom’s village to acknowledge and respond to what they notice and the specific moments they walk through by saying, ‘You are seen, I support you in this moment, and I celebrate who you are and the work you are doing.’ Where others make motherhood a series of comparisons and competitions, Mom Badge boldly builds a community where moms and those in their lives offer love and encouragement, helping them gain strength and find joy.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the founder of Mom Badge, a digital gifting platform to see, support, and celebrate moms. It is really hard to be a mom right now. Moms feel invisible, overwhelmed, unsupported – 92% feeling undervalued, 1 in 7 women have postpartum depression. The support needed is not found in anxiety and depression-producing social media networks. Moms are waking up each day running a marathon. Currently, friends and family can use social media and other online platforms for support and gifts, but Mom Badge offers a single, integrated solution
2023: Gift card feature launched, Mom Badge was on the business front page of the Star Tribune on Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day 2024: improved version of the platform, Fox9 news story and daytime segment
2024 goals: launch video messaging, expand partnerships, build the Mom Badge team, improve user engagement and experience
Finally, the most important marker of our success has been the user feedback and testimonials.
‘I feel relief when I use mom badge, you’re helping me be a better friend.’
‘Using mom badge has given me more empathy for my wife.’
‘Motherhood, and even just life, can feel lonely at times and even when we know we have great friends it can be hard to reach out. Mom Badge is the safest, easiest and quickest way to send deep support to a friend and for friends to send love back.’

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I have had to learn that the pace of growth is not something I can control. There are seasons of forward momentum, seasons of deafening silence and stagnancy, seasons to quietly build, seasons to share the story, and seasons to receive. I am only one variable in the movement forward. It is incredibly hard to remember this. My first year really diving into Mom Badge I was completely caught off guard that around the holidays it felt like all momentum stopped. No one was available to talk to and I felt so incredibly alone. The second year I knew the holiday season would feel this way. It helped so much to prepare for this change and work in a different way with fewer external expectations. I am perpetually learning to give what I can, to reach out for help, and also have patience with the process and the seasons that come and go.
