We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Dymond recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
My Grandpa is the inspiration behind my bakery’s name as well as many of our products! My Grandpa gave all of his grandkids nicknames, and mine was Moonbeam. When he retired from law enforcement he began cooking and baking! He enjoyed going to book stores to find recipes! He would come home with hand written recipes that he came up with while reading cook books. He then shared his creations with family and it brought so much joy to our family! He loved his family! I have fond memories of my time with him in and out of the kitchen! When the opportunity arose to open my own bakery it just felt right to include his nickname for me! I hope that my baked goods bring sweet memories one bite at a time, to everyone who tries them!
Rachel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It all started as a dream when I was little! Owning my own bakery was what I wanted as a young girl cooking and baking with my mom and grandparents! I would develop and test my own recipes in high school! I went to college at Kansas State University where, I majored in Hospitality Management. Upon Graduation I was recruited by a restaurant chain and relocated to Texas! I worked my way to being a General Manager for one of their stores with in five years. At which point I was ready for a change so I went to work for another restaurant where I was a general Manager, then moved into a corporate training and development role. I still had the bakery dream and wanting to share family recipes and memories with others when the opportunity arose for me to manage someone else’s bakery! After a couple of years, I God blessed me with the opportunity to open my own bakery! It was 2020, right as the pandemic was starting but I didn’t let that change my mind, because as at the time we thought it would be short lived. Fast forward Three years and we are still open and growing! We offer what many other local bakeries do not! We specialize in pies, cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls, buttermilk biscuits and more, all made from scratch and baked daily! You won’t find any box mixes or premade items in my shop! Only the best quality fresh and real ingredients go into our products, because that’s how I was raised! Instilling Sweet memories one bite at a time!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth is the best source of new clients! Being consistent in our quality of products and services! People share things they love and talk about them! I want people trying and talking about our baked goods! It truly is the best marketing I could get!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Opening a business at the beginning of a global pandemic; continuing to be open three years later despite the long shut downs of the pandemic, then rising costs of ingredients, packaging and labor. These are circumstances no business owner is ever truly prepared for, and many could not make the necessary changes to be able to keep their business open which is heart breaking. I believe dealing with these and finding ways to continue to offer the best quality consistently with great service shows testament to my resilience. It has not be easy by any means, and there are daily struggles but I will continue to persevere! I am thankful for each and every sale we obtain! It brings so much joy when patrons share their memories with us and that helps to keep me going!
