Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rachel Canelo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rachel, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Leaving my hometown; Providence, Rhode Island to move across the country and open a business of my own in such a short period of time was a major risk. Starting a youtube channel and displaying my day-to-day life to a world full of strangers was a risk. However, I understood that great things never came from comfort zones but rather from being comfortable with the uncomfortable; the unknown.
I spent 10 years in the corporate world, feeling unhappy and stressed out, overworked, and underappreciated. It was during this time that I decided to take a leap of faith and venture out on my own as an entrepreneur. I reached a breaking point where I realized that if I was going to put in so much effort and dedication, it should be towards building my own company instead of working for someone else’s success, and because of that, I am now doing what I love, helping and inspiring as many people as possible to do the same.

Rachel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a small-town girl going after her wildest dream! I am a full-time business owner and content creator. Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to have a bigger impact on people; helping them reach their goals and educating them along the way. However, I didn’t know where to start or how I could be of value to people.
I tried other outlets like door-to-door selling, event coordinating, medical assistant, and even network marketing;
where I learned the skillsets necessary to prepare me for what I truly wanted to pursue. After multiple attempts and setbacks, I discovered the beauty industry, the vehicle I would use to reach all of my goals.
I got into this business because of a skin condition that I have and it pushed me to look further into the anatomy of the skin. I found a passion in this industry and my way to help others. There is so much love that goes into what I do. I give my clients an experience that changes the way they see themselves. My goal for every client is to have them leave every session feeling confident and rejuvenated.
MODERN SKN is a beauty salon that offers an array of self-care services. From full-body waxing, and eyebrow lamination, to lash lifts and other advanced treatments. Men and women have insecurities when it comes to their intimate areas. Therefore, I ensure to provide a private and comfortable atmosphere for all clients to feel safe and comfortable in their own skin.
I want my guests to leave here feeling and looking their very best.
What sets me apart from other professionals is my friendly and professional demeanor and my passion and determination to solve their current skin concerns/issues. I give my clients the reassurance that they’re in great hands!
I will always and forever be proud of myself for persevering and overcoming the challenges that I have faced. It’s all about your mindset and how you react to difficult situations that will set you apart from the rest.
In addition, what people don’t know is the countless interviews, rejections, and sleepless nights I had to encounter to be where I am today. There have been A LOT of tears on this journey over the last year, but my faith, my “why” was far bigger than that. I took it upon myself to get the necessary training from other successful professionals to catapult my career. Quitting was not an option.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Referrals are one of the best ways to get new customers— but if you sit back and wait for your current customers to refer their friends and family members to you, you could be waiting a long time. So, becoming versatile is crucial in this business – attending networking events, putting yourself out there Ex: social media to reach a bigger audience has helped me tremendously with my clientele growth.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
1. Networking with other business owners ( Locally or Globally)
2. Attending community events
3. Social Media presence and email list
I’m extremely personable with every person that I meet. Therefore, it’s important that you build and prioritize connections and
engagement with your local and social media supporters.
