Rachel , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

I became a single mother while pregnant with my forth and final baby and was researching ways to make money while remaining a stay at home mom. One my baby was born; she, my two year old daughter and I moved back to West Virginia. Both of my daughters have eczema from head to toe and between city water, gas heat and cold dry air it worsened tremendously. I saw on Facebook a friend of mine had started making and selling skin care products so I reached out to her and she gave me her blessing. From there I began researching, purchasing ingredients and trial by error. I was lucky enough to create a body butter that not only isn’t oily and greasy but helped my girls. Since then they no longer use doctor prescribed ointments but my body butter. From there I’ve proceeded to create other skin care products and plan to continue my growth of products to hopefully grow a company successful enough to leave to my girls.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Rachel; owner, operator and creator of Almost Heaven Essential, LLC. I was inspired to take a leap when I saw how a friend of mine was making money and as a single mother I was wanting a way to take care of and support my two babies while staying at home. Both of my babies suffer from eczema badly and was prescribed chemical infused ointments. So my first challenge was to create something that would soothe their skin using all natural ingredients and I did it! I created an all natural body butter that keeps my girls skin hydrated and free of symptoms and allowed me to toss the prescribed ointments. My body butter has also helped others with extreme dryness as well as dry, itchy skin caused by chemo treatment. Since I’ve created other products such as soap, salts, an anti-aging set that has proven results, a toner spray as well as men’s products; body spray, beard butter and beard oil. I am very proud of my products and highly recommend them to all skin types and of almost all ages. All of my products are family tested before introducing to the public.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.

I manufacture all of my products. I did hours upon hours of research on proper ingredients to mix together, on the best ingredients for certain skin issues, how to properly calculate and mix these ingredients. After all of those hours of reading and researching it all came down to this… trial and error. This is how I create all of my products. I hand make all of my products and I use all of my products (with the exception of the men’s products) and I love all of my products and so do all of my customers, family and friends.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

A lesson I had to unlearn is that not everything can be done by the books. What I mean by this is… with skin care you can look up thousands of recipes online and you can make any of them. However the only way to stand out and make something your own is to create outside of the box and try something that no one has; whether it be a whole new set of ingredients or an entirely different product all together.
