Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rä Lomac. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rä, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
They individually showed me duality in independence. My father taught me strategy through endurance and mother the strength in sacrifice. They both continue to have some of the biggest hearts I’ve seen but with that level in caring for others an equal if not greater understanding of setting boundaries. When I was younger my father took me with him to assist a friend of his by cutting down a tree in their back yard. I was 8 at the time, so a task this big I quickly got fatigued and wanted anything but ; so I suggested we take a lunch or grab a snack. He replied : ” If you eat now before the hardest part of the job isn’t complete, after the meal you won’t have as much focus to complete lesser tasks ahead. ” That’s a lesson I keep with me to this day, I treat my daily goals and activity as most approach laundry : folding one pair of socks at a time , once complete the enjoyment of rest is amplified.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey began being accepted in the poetry club my high school offered. I’ve never written a poem until 30 minutes before auditions and luckily got a chance to join an amazing group of multi-talented individuals. From there I begin winning poetry competitions through out Chicago. Shortly after music became of interest all thanks to programs such as Youmedia ( In Harold Washington Library ) , Little Black Pearl , and Young Chicago Authors. From there I was able to study alongside ChanceTheRapper, Vic Mensa, Nico Segal, Ramon King, Saba, No Name, and so many more. The leadership by mentors ( Mike ‘Brother Mike’ Hawkins, Jovia Armstrong, etc ) elevated my approach to the arts as a whole. We were granted opportunities to work on projects with Toni Morrison, Mark Bradford, attend Ted Talks, and walk throughs of the Google offices at the time.
Fast forward, I craft in multiple disciplines : cut+sew garments, music production, songwriting, photography, paint, modeling, acting, writer and curator. My services tend to provide solutions for individual, company, and exhibition needs as it pertains to marketing/strategy/execution.
I pride myself of the continued work applied across varies mediums and the trust that others allow space for me to steer. With that said, I want the work to be revered as a practice in release; and in that anyone can move innovation forward.
