Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to R. Tiffany David. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, R. Tiffany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with something countless entrepreneurs have had to figure out on the fly – how have you dealt with the rise of remote work?
Recent events in the world have catapulted us forward about 30 years but some leaders have developed an agile mindset to change and are responding with resilience and compassion. But the real work is just getting started and change continues to challenge us to be better.
Working from home, or wherever you call home today, is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to employers understanding how the workplace landscape has evolved, and will continue to evolve, forever.
The secret we share with our clients begin with leadership. Begin with an understanding of the role and the value to the organization. Everything else then should be centered around which pieces of a regular schedule can be fluid and which, for the benefit of the organization, team or client, needs to remain stable. Re-learning performance management for virtual employees is essential.
In today’s talent war, the smart employers will make it a priority to give their workers a balanced worklife in order to attract, retain and engage their people.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was working towards my bachelor degree in Business with an Accounting emphasis when I landed a job at Blanchard Training & Development. The exposure I had with Ken Blanchard and his team was extraordinary and I never forgot how important Leadership was to organizations as well as individuals.
My second career after accounting was in HR and I was inspired to impact as many organizations as I could to improve the world of work. Now, as an experienced entrepreneur and culture enthusiast, I bring decades of practical HR to organizations that want to do more than survive the legal landscape. I have developed processes and policies for California, multi-state and global organizations to optimize their workforce and thrive in today’s markets.
My creative side is most fulfilled by my innovative work developing fresh and relevant performance management programs, coaching executives and building leaders at all levels, In San Diego, I started the local DisruptHR movement in 2016, developed R-evolution@Work speaker and event series in 2018 and, in 2019 launched A Human Workplace Gathering in San Diego based of the work of Reneé Smith.
As Founder and Principal of Total People Management, I consult with owners and leaders to truly understand the challenges before the business. Knowing that People are the lifeblood of any organization leads to finding beneficial solutions for all involved parties.
The foundation of any successful venture begins with compliance; scope, audit/assessment, gap identification, and correction timeline. After the confidence of a solid HR platform, we help our clients with employee relations escalations, mediations and a strong proactive culture that supports feedback loops, key decision metrics, efficient technology support and DEIB initiatives that work for positive, sustainable change.
At Total People Management, and our new coaching branch Total Leadership Transformation, it is our goal to delight our clients with excellent service, seasoned advice, and a human touch.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Leaders can be intimidating. The myth, however, is that they are better than anyone else. Although they may have more financial or professional success, they suffer and dream and make mistakes like the rest of us. Leaders are people too and are deserving of compassion and understanding in the worst of times, vision and strength in the best of times.
I always say that there are Leaders and there are Emerging Leaders. No bridges should be allowed to burn in your career and that goes for everyone as much as possible.
Remember when you realized that your parents were just doing the best they could and were not superheroes after all? Ya, it’s like that.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Our clients appreciate the check-in chats that we provide. Just knowing that we are staying ahead of issues as much as possible is a great confidence builder for them. We also help their team look good and help them grow their People & Culture or Leadership skill sets.
Loyalty is a furry animal that you must keep fed and cared for at all times. We are not afraid of feedback, good or bad, and realize that we attract the right client fit at the right time. I think that is why our advertising budget is closely tied to keeping our clients delighted and our referral partners feeling appreciated.
