Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Qween Meek. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Qween Meek, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I would say the most meaningful project I’ve worked on is the one I’m currently working on at this very moment. It’s my first solo body of work and an introduction of who Qween Meek is and what she’s capable of doing. Though it’s short this EP will be setting the bar for my entire career as well give my potential supports a taste of my versatility.

Melicia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who don’t know “what I do is for the ratchets and the classy, just call us clatchet and the tea I serve can easily be turned into Purp(pose)”
I’m an author, poet, rapper from Houston, Texas. When I started 5 years ago I didn’t know who I was as a person or what I wanted to do with my life, but I did know I wanted more than the heart ache I was dealing with.
I started with writing poems about negative experiences I had with mostly Exs and family as an outlet because I felt I had no one that understood my pain.
When I decided to go by Qween Meek I was laid out on my mothers living room floor designing Black Qween and King shirts because I wanted to prove to my ex that I could be more than the monster I allowed his actions to make me believe I was.
As time progressed I set my intentions on being the author/poet that could be the voice for women who faces the same challenges as I.
Yet, I somehow got lost in being just that and forgot that I’m human as well so, I started misjudging those around me. Because of my actions I decided to take some time away from my artistry to figure out who I am and what my purpose for my gift is.
Two years later my intentions are to be the best version of myself I can be and help those who can relate to my story and be there whoever I can be there for to the extent that I can be. All while enjoying the process of my growth.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn how to stop getting in my own way. I struggled with perfectionism for awhile. If something couldn’t be done exactly the way I wanted, I’d quickly drop the entire idea altogether. Now I’m going with the flow and making adjustments as needed. Ironically things have been going a lot better than expected.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Seeing every little detail come to life after putting in so much effort in overtime.
