We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Quynh Vu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Quynh, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The Biggest Risk of My Life: Leaving Pharmacy for Real Estate
I walked away from a six-figure pharmacy career to become a full-time land investor. Sounds crazy, right? But here’s why it was the best decision I ever made.
For years, I followed the traditional path—advanced degrees, a secure job, and a steady paycheck. But despite the financial stability, I felt trapped. Long hours, constant stress, and no control over my time made me realize: this isn’t the freedom I worked so hard for.
Then, I discovered land investing—a niche that generates passive income without tenants, rehabs, or massive capital. I started flipping vacant land on the side, and within months, I saw its potential to not just replace, but exceed my pharmacy income. The toughest part? Taking the leap.
Leaving my career felt terrifying, but today, I run a thriving land business with my husband, leveraging owner financing to create cash flow while helping others invest in land. More importantly, I have the freedom to design my life on my terms.
Taking this risk gave me everything I was missing: time, financial independence, and control. And now, I help others see that their own path to freedom might be closer than they think.
Quynh, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From Healthcare to Land Investing: Helping Others Build Wealth Through Vacant Land
I’m Quynh Vu, a former pharmacist and healthcare administrator turned full-time land investor, entrepreneur, and educator. My journey into land investing wasn’t conventional—it was born out of a desire for financial freedom, time flexibility, and a business that aligned with my values.
After spending years in a high-stress career with long hours and limited autonomy, I knew I needed a change. My husband, Tri, and I stumbled upon vacant land investing, a niche often overlooked in real estate. Unlike traditional real estate, land requires no tenants, no property management, and minimal upkeep—yet it offers huge potential for cash flow and wealth-building. We started part-time, testing different strategies, and soon realized we had tapped into something powerful.
What We Do
Through Secure Land Co, we help everyday people—whether they’re investors, outdoor enthusiasts, or families looking for an affordable property—buy land through flexible owner financing. Our business provides:
✅ Affordable land ownership – No banks, no credit checks, just easy financing options.
✅ Investment opportunities – We show clients how vacant land can generate passive income.
✅ Diverse land uses – Whether for homesteading, off-grid living, recreation, or long-term investment, we help buyers find the perfect property.
What Sets Us Apart
We’re not just land sellers—we’re land educators and investors who believe in the power of land ownership to change lives. Many people assume land is expensive or hard to finance, but we break down those barriers with flexible terms and a personalized buying experience.
We also actively challenge misconceptions about land, showing that it’s not just for the wealthy or big developers. Land is for everyone, and we’re on a mission to make it accessible, affordable, and profitable for everyday people.
What I’m Most Proud Of
1️⃣ Helping people build wealth – We’ve helped countless individuals start their land ownership journey, some of whom never thought it was possible.
2️⃣ Creating a scalable business that replaced our 9-to-5 incomes – Our land investments now generate consistent monthly cash flow.
3️⃣ Inspiring others to take control of their financial future – Many professionals, like myself, feel stuck in traditional careers. I love showing them that alternative paths to financial independence exist.
At the heart of it all, I’m passionate about sharing knowledge, building a legacy, and proving that land is only limited by your imagination. Whether you’re looking to own land or explore investing, I’m here to help you take that first step!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The Illusion of Job Security: A Lesson I Had to Unlearn
As an immigrant, I was taught that education was the key to security. My parents sacrificed so much for us to have a fresh start in the U.S., and they believed that going to college and getting a stable, high-paying job was the safest path to success. I followed that advice, earned my doctorate, and became a pharmacist—a career that was supposed to guarantee stability.
But here’s what I had to unlearn: stability in any job is just perceived security.
In corporate America, mergers, acquisitions, and reorgs are the reality. Companies downsize. They replace experienced employees with new grads who will work for less. No matter how much education or experience you have, you are always replaceable in someone else’s business. I saw this happen time and time again—loyal, hardworking professionals blindsided by layoffs or restructuring, left scrambling because they only had one source of income.
That’s why I built a Plan B—land investing. What started as a side hustle quickly grew into a reliable income stream, independent of an employer. Eventually, it became my Plan A, allowing me to leave my career and create financial freedom on my own terms.
The biggest lesson? Never rely on one income stream. True security doesn’t come from a degree or a paycheck—it comes from having multiple ways to support yourself, so no matter what happens, you’re in control.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivoting in Real Estate: From Short Term Rentals to Land Investing
A few years ago, like many investors, we jumped on the AirBnB boom—purchasing properties in high-demand destinations like Florida, Tennessee, and Arizona during COVID. At the time, remote work was at its peak, and short-term rental revenues were historically high as people took advantage of their newfound flexibility to travel while working remotely.
But as the world shifted, so did the market. Many workers returned to in-office or hybrid schedules, and international travel rebounded, leading to a stabilization (and in some cases, a decline) in Airbnb revenues. The numbers simply weren’t what they used to be, and we knew we had to adapt.
So, we made a strategic pivot—diversifying into vacant land. Instead of focusing solely on short-term rentals, we shifted our investment strategy to acquiring rural land on the outskirts of fast-growing cities where populations and rents are rising. The demand for affordable land—whether for homesteading, off-grid living, or long-term investment—continues to grow.
This pivot allows us to build a more resilient portfolio with lower overhead, fewer management headaches, and long-term appreciation potential. Real estate is always evolving, and the key to long-term success is being willing to adjust, innovate, and stay ahead of the curve.
