Quymesha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have my bachelor’s in Biology and would spend my days working as a lab technician for a pharmaceutical company. The days would feel so long, and the work was very taxing on the body. At the end of each day, I would rush home to do my favorite thing: relax and unwind with a good bath. I loved having the whole bath routine which included bath bombs and candles, different soaps, etc. After completing the bath, I noticed how the products would dry out my skin so much. This led me to researching what could help with that and if this product is already being made. I noticed how many companies made their products with tons of preservatives and alcohols that may do more damage than good, and this knowledge led me to want to create my own products naturally. Thus, the start of my experimentations began, creating my own bath products with natural ingredients. I decided to my hobby into a business when I realized how awesome every product worked on my skin and wanted to reach others with the same issues.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Bath & Butter offers a luxurious bathing experience with you in mind. Our mission is to provide an invigorating encounter that will leave you relaxed and refreshed with each usage. We use all natural ingredients to provide essential bathing products to help soothe and calm skin and help you feel refreshed. There are many people that suffer with skin irritations including inflammation and dryness and also body aches. My business seeks to help solve these issues. I incorporate flowers, herbs, and CBD in some products to solve a bit of each issue a customer face. Along with taking time to unwind and relax in the tub, I discovered a very important component for my business: self-care can improve mental health. What drew me to wanting to relax after work, was how fantastic I felt afterwards. This allowed me to sleep better and have better prepared me for the next day. Not only did my products improve skin, but also mood and help with aches and pains that each day may bring.
What makes me proud of my business is how much my products impact others. I started this with wanting more clean and natural products, then expanding to helping others with similar values. My biggest accomplishment is having the opportunities I have had to talk to others about the products and having such positive feedback from each product. With me being the only person operating everything, sometimes I feel overwhelmed and second guess some of the business decisions. To hear how my hard work is paying off is best response.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My business has been a part of many pop-up shops in local neighborhoods and partnered with a rehabilitation hospital to provide products to over 500 patients. The pop-up shops allowed my business to reach new customers and provide testers to many individuals that had body pains and didn’t want to take medication. Many of these people wanted natural products with natural ingredients to help with their skin and body pains. I was shocked! I knew there would be some that could relate but wasn’t expecting the outcome to be so great. This pushes me to want to reach more people and unite us all. With the rehabilitation hospital partnership, the director of a department in the hospital heard about my products from an employee and decided to showcase them as a gift for all the patients in the hospital. I was honored to have that opportunity to help those in recovery and aid in their rehabilitation any way possible.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Honestly the most effective strategy for me is word of mouth!! I know it seems so simple but you can definitely have growth just by networking. I have learned that many people love a genuine connection to the person behind the product. Due to having that connection, they are willing to spread that connection to one another. You never know who someone knows!
